Northwestern Swept in Mid-week Rivalry Matchup

WEATHERFORD, Okla. - Northwestern Oklahoma State dropped the opener of Tuesday's doubleheader with an 8-7 loss to Southwestern and fell in game two 9-3 in the mid-week rivalry in Weatherford.
  
The Red-and-Black will fall to 7-7 overall and 2-6 in Great American Conference with the losses on Tuesday.
 
Hannah Howell and Jayden Solberg each collected a pair of hits in game one, while Regan Burleson, Jayden Flowers, Lindsey McElroy and Allison Zanca added one.
  
Solberg accounted for five RBI, while Howell collected two.
 
Howell got the start and tossed 6.1 innings in the loss, allowing eight runs, six earned on nine hits with a strikeout and five walks.
 
Solberg put the Red-and-Black on the board with a three-run home run to left, driving in McElroy and Howell, taking a 3-0 lead.
  
SWOSU would answer with three runs in the second and one in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead.
  
The Bulldogs would add two more runs in the sixth inning to increase their lead to 6-3.
 
A two-RBI double by Howell in the top of the seventh, followed by a Solberg two-run homerun to right-center, would give the Rangers a 7-6 lead.
  
However, Southwestern would pick up two runs in the bottom of the seventh to swipe the game 8-7.
 
In the nightcap, Northwestern got behind early and was unable to catch up to the Bulldogs.
 
SWOSU scored two in the first, added four more in the fourth and capped their scoring with three in the sixth. 
 
Howell, Kalie Johnson, Brianna Wisby and Zanca each collected a pair of hits in the game, while Jayden Flowers and McElroy each chipped in a hit.

Zanca led the way with two runs batted in and Howell drove in one.
  
Hannah Scoggin got the start throwing the first 3.2 innings, allowing six runs, three earned on seven hits and three walks, with two strikeouts in the loss, falling to 1-3 on the season for NWOSU.
 
Allie Hufford came on to toss 2.1 innings and was tagged for three runs on three hits and three walks.
 
In the third inning, McElroy led off with a double to center field, then was advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Wisby, then scored on the double to left by Howell, getting the Red-and-Black on the board trailing 2-1.
 
Northwestern's other two runs came in the fifth inning when Wisby reached on an infield single to short, then Howell doubles to left-center, putting runners on second and third with two outs for Zanca, who laced a double into right field to drive in both runners.
 
The Rangers will return to action on Friday when they travel to Durant to take on Southeastern in a doubleheader starting at 10 am.
