Rangers Fall in Doubleheader Saturday

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Northwestern falls in the first game today 4-3 and in the series finale 2-1 to Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday at the Bison Softball Field.
 
The loss moves the Rangers to 8-21 overall and 3-20 in the Great American Conference.
 
Northwestern would have five hits in the game, two each by Hannah Howell and Kalie Johnson, while Brianna Wisby collected the other.
 
Howell would drive in two runs, while Regan Burleson had the other RBI.
 
Howell would get the start throwing a complete game in the loss, allowing four runs, two earned six hits.
 
The Bison would score two runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead.
 
OBU would score two runs in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead. 
 
Howell would not allow a hit to OBU and only allowed four Bison bases over the final three innings.
 
In the top of the seventh, Johnson would lead off with a double, Wisby would follow with a single down the line in right. Burleson would drive in Johnson with a groundout. A pitch would hit Morgan La Neve, then Kameron Ryer pinch-running would move up to second on a wild pitch. Howell would double to right field to drive in both Wisby and Ryer. Oklahoma Baptist would stop the two-out rally by the Red-and-Black and Northwestern would fall in game one 4-3.
 
In-game two, The Rangers would receive a stellar performance in the circle by Hannah Scoggin, throwing her sixth complete game of the year.
 
Burleson, Howell and Allison Zanca would each have a hit for Northwestern.
 
Zanca would drive in the lone RBI.
 
OBU would score a run in the bottom of the second to get out to a 1-0 lead early. 
 
In the fourth inning, Howell would double to start the inning, then move up on a wild pitch and come in to score on a Zanca single back up the middle to tie the game at 1-1.
 
The Bison would answer to retake the lead 2-1 after four innings. Holding the Rangers off the scoreboard the rest of the game. 
 
The Red-and-Black will head to Searcy, Ark., to face Hardin in a three-game series starting on Friday with a doubleheader at 3 and 5 pm, then a single game on Saturday at noon.
