Rangers fall twice to SNU Friday

ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern opened its Friday doubleheader with a 12-5 loss to Southern Nazarene and was unable to bounce back in the nightcap, falling 18-10 in six innings in the series finale on Friday afternoon at the Alva Recreation Complex.
 
The losses move the Rangers to 7-19 overall on the season and 2-18 in Great American Conference play.
 
Alanya Georgio led the Red-and-Black with three hits in game one. Mesa Gann, Hannah Howell and Kalie Johnson collected a pair of hits, while Taylor Graham, Morgan La Neve, Lindsey McElroy and Jayden Solberg each added one.
 
Howell would lead NWOSU driving two runs in. Gann and La Neve each tailed one RBI.
 
Hannah Scoggin got the start throwing 6.2 innings, taking the loss after allowing nine runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts. She now has a record of 1-8 on the season.
 
Ariel Forsyth would see her first live-action of the season in relief. She surrendered three runs on a hit. 
 
Kameron Ryer would come in and throw 0.1 innings, striking out the one batter she faced. 
 
SNU would get on the board first, scoring in the top of the third, giving the Crimson Storm a 1-0 lead.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, Gann would lead off with a single, Georgio would later single La Neve would pinch-hit with a single down the right-field line, driving in Kailin Lian. Howell would later reach on an error that allowed Georgio to score, giving Northwestern a 2-1 lead.
 
Southern Nazarene would add a run in the top of the fifth to tie the game 3-3, heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. 
 
Gann would answer back in the Rangers half of the inning, smacking a solo homerun to right-center to give Northwestern a 3-2 lead.
 
SNU would tack on four runs in the sixth inning and six runs in the seventh inning to take a 12-3 lead. 
 
Graham would start a two-out rally for the Red-and-Black in the bottom of the seventh. Georgio would single, then Bushey would get walked to load the bases. Howell would smack a two-run single to center to score Graham and Georgio, bringing the final score to 12-5.
 
In the finale, Howell, Georgio and Johnson collected two hits. McElroy and Allison Zanca would chip in a hit apiece.
 
Howell and McElroy would tally three RBI, followed by Georgio and Johnson with two. 
 
SNU would start the scoring in the top of the first, scoring 11 runs, then added two more runs in the second to take a 13-0 lead after two innings. 
 
At the bottom of the third inning, the Rangers would get on the board with two runs on a Howell two-run homerun to center, scoring Georgio.
 
Zanca would get the Red-and-Black going in the fourth with a leadoff double. Brianna Wisby would get a pinch-hit single up the middle, then Kelsey Bushey would walk to load the bases. Georgio would drive in Zanca and Wisby with a single to center. McElroy would walk to reload the bases, then Howell is walked to force home Georgio. Northwestern would trim the deficit to 12-7 through four innings. 
 
Southern Nazarene would respond in the fifth getting four runs to stretch the lead to 17-7.
 
Georgio would get the Rangers going with two outs in the fifth, with a single to the right side. Lian would reach on a fielder's choice aided by an error. McElroy would make the Storm pay by launching a three-run homerun to left, making the score 16-10 in favor of the visitors. 
 
SNU would get a run in the top of the sixth, taking an 18-10 lead and hold Northwestern off the board in the bottom of the inning-ending the game.
 
Howell would get the start, throwing a combined 2.0 innings in the game, surrendering 10 runs on six hits while collecting two strikeouts. 
 
Ryer would surrender three hits and two runs before turning the ball over to Zanca. Zanca would throw 4.0, allowing six runs, one earned on seven hits. 
 
The Red-and-Black will be back in action on Tuesday in the mid-week rivalry matchup, finishing the Southwestern series. The first pitch is scheduled for 4 pm.
