Northwestern Drops Two on Saturday to Arkansas Tech

ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern dropped game one of Saturday's doubleheader with a 4-2 loss to Arkansas Tech and fell in the finale 9-2 at the Ranger Softball Field.
 
The losses dip the Rangers to 8-27 overall on the season and 3-26 in Great American Conference play.
 
Allison Zanca led the Red-and-Black with three hits, while Alayna Georgio collected a pair of hits. Hannah Howell and Kalie Johnson added one.
 
Zanca would account for both RBI.
 
Alexia Taylor got the start pitching 2.0 innings, taking the loss after allowing a run on three hits with two strikeouts. She now has a record of 2-2 on the season.
 
Hannah Scoggin would throw 5.0 innings in relief, allowing three runs on three hits.
 
Arkansas Tech would score a run in the top of the second to take a 1-0 lead.
 
The Rangers would tie the game at 1-1 in the fifth inning when Zanca would connect on a solo homerun to left.
 
ATU would respond in the top of the sixth with three runs to take a 4-1 lead. 
 
In the bottom of the seventh, Northwestern did not go quietly. Johnson started with a one-out double down the line in right; She advanced to third on a passed ball, then scored on a Zanca double off the wall in center, to trim the ATU score to the final of 4-2.
 
In game two, Howell and Lindsey McElroy collected two hits, while Johnson and Zanca added a hit.

The Rangers would strike early, getting a run in the bottom of the first. Howell would lead off the inning by getting walked, then Johnson would advance her with a sacrifice bunt, and Zanca would drive her in with a single up the middle.
 
In the third inning, the Golden Suns would score six runs to take a 6-1 lead.
 
Arkansas Tech would add another run in the fifth inning.
 
Northwestern would score in the bottom of the fifth, cutting the deficit to 7-2. McElroy would lead off the inning with a single, Brianna Wisby would reach by an error that allowed McElroy to advance to third. Johnson would score Wisby on a groundout to the right side. 
 
ATU would add the final two runs of the game in the top of the seventh to get to the final score of 9-2. 
 
Howell was tagged for eight runs on nine hits and 2.1 innings of work, allowing six runs, five earned on six hits while striking out three.
 
Allie Hufford would come into to throw the final 4.2 innings in relief, surrendering three runs, one earned on five hits.
