ALVA, Okla.- The after-season accolades continued on Wednesday afternoon when two Ranger baseball players were voted onto the 2021 Central-ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Team. These teams are voted upon by the American Baseball Coaches Association members led by the ABCA NCAA Division II All-America Committee.
Â
The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and high school. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007.Â
The two players are designated hitter Blake Hoffman voted onto the region's first team as the DH, and infielder Marques Paige receives first-team recognition.
Â
Hoffman earned the First-Team recognition representing the team as the designated hitter. Following the season's conclusion, he finished the season hitting .443 with nineteen extra-base hits of his forty-seven. He ended the year with ten home runs and 21-RBI on the season in 29 starts with 34 total games played. Along with being the Rangers' designated hitter, the junior saw time at first base and pitching.Â
Â
The Colony Texas native earned first-team honors after making the Great American Conference second team in May and NCBWA All-Central First Team in May, along with NCBWA All-America Honorable Mention and D2CCA First All-Region.Â
Â
The Rangers' infielder Paige achieved the 2021 All-Central Region Baseball second team. Paige finished the regular season with a .338 average with 29 extra-base hits, including 18 home runs, one triple, and ten doubles. The 18 home runs tied the most home runs by a Rangers player since joining NCAA Division II. He is tied for 10th in the nation in home runs while leading the Great American Conference. The Las Vegas, Nevada native, had 51-RBI, which tied for first in the GAC. His .787 slugging percentage is second in the conference. Paige led the team in home runs, RBI, and total bases.
Â
Paige has now been named to the ABCA/Rawlings first-team, D2CCA All-Region Second Team, and ALL-GAC first team this season as well.Â
Â
With Hoffman and Paige being first-team selection, they will now be nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America Honors, which will be announced Friday, June 4th.Â
