Campbell Leads Rangers Past the Jets Sunday Afternoon

Alva, Oklahoma- The Rangers traveled to Wichita, Kansas, to face off against the Newman Jets this afternoon. The Rangers came into this match with their head held high, looking for their first win of the season.  Rangers would take advantage of sending the game into overtime with a late second-half goal at the 87th minute by Campbell before winning in the first overtime.

"A great team performance today from the Rangers.  We showed a lot of heart and kept battling to get a very late equalizer. Then we had the legs and depth to capitalize and get the winner in overtime.  We are very pleased to get the win and look forward to learning and growing from it" stated head coach Alex Piekarski.

Northwestern was led by Tiara Campbell, scoring both the Rangers' goals in the 2-1 victory Sunday.  She finished the afternoon with two goals on three total shots on goal. The Rangers had two other shots on goal, both from Lily Anderson. Reagan Allen finished the afternoon with six saves on seven shots on goal faced.

Rangers went down in the first half, ending the first 45 minutes 1-0.

Reagan Allen had a busy first half with being faced with six shots, four of those being on target. Including two in the game's opening minute as she kept the game scoreless 0-0 after the save. 

The Rangers and the Jets held their own in the first half keeping the game tied until the Rangers went down during the 21st minute when Newman forward Cassandra Moeder, snuck the ball past Allen for the first goal of the contest, which netted the bottom left corner of the goal.

The Jets outshot the Rangers 6-2 in during the first half, carrying that 1-0 lead into the break. 

The Rangers started the half with the kickoff. The second half was even, with both teams fighting to score.

Tiara Campbell put one in the back of the night at the 87th-minute mark. The goal was scored by Campbell placing the ball perfectly in the bottom left corner of the goal, which was assisted by Reilly Marks.Allen shut out the Jets in the second half with zero goals allowed on the two shots on goal in the second half to help force the game into overtime

The Rangers and Jets went into overtime to face off in the first ten minutes of the first overtime, which is  golden goal or two 10 minute overtimes.

Rangers pulled off the win with two minutes left in the first overtime as Campbell racked up her second goal of the game. Campbell headed the ball in the back of the net that gave the Rangers their first win of the season. 

The Rangers even out their record with a 1-1 record following the overtime win. The win is head coach Alex Piekarski's first win of his Division II college career. 

Rangers are back on the road for their second away game of this four-game road trip on Friday, Sept. 10th, against the University of Nebraska at Kearney at 2 PM.
