Rangers Look to Even Season Series vs Southern Arkansas Saturday Afternoon

ALVA, OKLA- Northwestern Oklahoma State Men's Basketball enters Saturday afternoon on a three game win streak following Thursday night's victory over Arkansas- Monticello 74-61 with their second straight double digit victory. Northwestern will look to avenge their loss to Southern Arkansas earlier in the season. 
 

The Rangers (12-6 overall, 7-5 GAC) have won three straight games in conference play. The Red-and-Black enter with a 7-3 home record on the season.
 

Northwestern will look to carry on their defensive momentum from these past two games after holding Arkansas- Monticello to 61 points and Arkansas Tech to 67 points on the season. Northwestern following Thursday's performance, allowing 69.4 points per game ranks sixth in the conference. The Red-and-Black make it challenging on the opponent as the team is third in Field-Goal Percentage defense holding the opponent to 42.1%. 
 

The Red-and-Black are led by Bubba Furlong averaging 2.50 blocks per game ranking first in the conference and 11th in the nation. As a team the rangers are first in the conference and eighth in the Division II with 5.1 blocks per game. Teammate Larry White has helped put the Rangers second in the conference with 136 steals on the season as White is first in the conference with 34 steals on the year. The duo of Furlong and White has helped the Rangers excel on rebounds with both being in the top 10 in the conference as Furlong is third with 142 rebounds followed by White with 120 ranking sixth in the conference. 
 

The Rangers' offense has balanced well with the defense as the Rangers rank first in field goal percentage shooting 48.9% as a team. Northwestern averages 78.1 points per game which is second in the Great American Conference. Northwestern is second in the conference in assists on the year. This has helped lead to the fourth best three point percentage in the conference.
 

Larry White leads the team in scoring at 14.2 points per game on 56% shooting. He is one of four double figure scorers joined by Bubba Furlong at 12.9 points shooting 59% which leads the team. Brian Free scores 11.5 points a game shooting 44% from three knocking down 48 on the season and shooting 93% from the foul line. Malik Parson is fourth at 11.3 points a game. Free leads the team with 52 assists on the season. 
 

Scouting the opponent Southern Arkansas: 

The Muleriders (10-7 overall, and 6-5 GAC) enter play losing their last game on Thursday against Southwestern 70-67. They are 1-4 in their last five games and enter the game on a three game road losing streak.
 

Southern Arkansas will enter play one of the higher scoring teams in the conference averaging 76.1 points per game which is third in the conference. They shoot 43% from the field ranking 10th in the conference. Devante Brooks is the team's leading scorer at 16.6 points per game, as one of four players averaging double figures like the Rangers. Aaron Lucas is second at 14.2 points followed by Jalen Brooks and Blake Rogers at 11.1 and 10.9. Lucas has a team high 50 assists on the season as the team ranks in the category. 
 

The Muleriders defense ranks third in points allowed at 66.6 points per game their opponents are scoring each game. They are second in field goal percentage for opponents. This will be a battle between a solid Mulerider defense against a strong Ranger offense. 
 

Jalen Brooks leads the visitors in steals on the season at 32 which ranks second in the conference for an individual. The team ranks first in rebounding margin along with first in offensive rebounds per game as the Rangers look to control the glass. 
 

History: 
 

Northwestern leads the series history 11-7 over the Muleriders in 18 total games. Northwestern will enter Saturday with a 5-3 home record against SAU. The Rangers trail 2-3 in the last five games as the Rangers look to get back in the win column over Southern Arkansas following a loss earlier this season. 
 

White was one of two double digit scorers leading the team with 15 followed by Ravel Moody with 12 in the game. The Muleriders were led by Brooks with 21 points in the Ranger loss.
