ALVA, Okla- Northwestern Oklahoma State Football's Gavin Garner received 2021 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America honors Monday. The Ranger wide receiver was named to the honorable mention team as a WR.
The Don Hansen team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen, from Brookfield, Ill., started and published Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988.
Garner turned in a spectacular senior season campaign for the Rangers finishing with 1099 yards for an average of 18.95 per catch along with 12 touchdowns with his longest being a 93 yard score. He averaged 99.91 yards per game on the season. He had over 100 receiving yards in six of the eleven games. His season-high was 173 yards, and his touchdown-high was three against Arkansas-Monticello. He was second in the conference in receiving yards this year, averaging exactly 100 per game. His 12 touchdowns were good for fifth in the conference. The Newcastle, Oklahoma native tied the career touchdown record here at Northwestern following his successful 2021 campaign.
The last Ranger to receive this recognition was Maurice Wright Jr. following a stellar senior season campaign at the linebacker position in the 2019 season. He was also honorable mention team but at the linebacker position.
