Northwestern Set to Host Ouachita Baptist Saturday Afternoon

ALVA, OKLA- Northwestern Oklahoma State will look to win their second straight game on Saturday as the Rangers play host to Ouachita Baptist. This will be the first game out of two total meetings for the Rangers and Tigers this season. The game is scheduled for a 3:00PM tip-off at the conclusion of the Lady Rangers game.

 

The Rangers (8-4 overall and 3-3 Great American Conference) will look to carry over the defensive momentum into Saturday after snapping their two game losing streak on Thursday.  

 

Northwestern's defense continues to be one of the top in the league as the Rangers are ranked first in blocks per game and first in blocks on the season in the conference. Furlong leads the team with 2.50 per game and 30 on the season through 12 games. Northwestern is second in the league in steals per game led by Larry White with 20 on the season for 1.6 per game. The 67.5 points per game rank fourth in the conference in the least amount of points allowed per game.

 

The Ranger offense averages 77.9 points per game which ranks the third-most in the conference. White leads the team in scoring with 13.7 points per game as one of four double-figure scorers. He is followed by Bubba Furlong with 11.3 per game, Malik Parsons with 11.1 and Brian Free 10.0. Northwestern has two players tied at 28 for the most assists on the team in Furlong, and Free while Parsons has 27. The Rangers are second in assists per game and fourth on the season in the conference. Furlong leads the team with 7.5 rebounds per game followed by White with 5.9 on the season. Furlong has brought down 33 offensive rebounds on the season to lead the team.

 

Scouting the Opponent- Ouachita Baptist

 

Ouachita Baptist (3-8 overall, and 1-4 GAC) enters play Saturday having won their last game over Southwestern in overtime played in Weatherford. The win snapped their four game losing streak in conference play and on the road.

 

The Tigers rank seventh in the conference in scoring with 71.8 points per game on the season. They are led by two players averaging double figures in Ma'Darius Hobson with 16.6 per game followed by Kendarious Smith at 12.9 on 47 percent shooting from the field. Nero Larenz and Alex Scariolo lead the team in assists with 28 and 25 respectively. 

 

Ouachita Baptist is allowing 77.1 points per game which ranks 11th in the Great American Conference. The Tigers have 20 blocked shots on the season ranking 12th and 75 steals on the year ranked seventh in the league. Hobson leads with 19 steals on the year followed by Bankston at 14. Tylar Haynes leads the team with six blocks. 

 

History:

The Tigers lead the series 11-5 dating back to 2013 in the teams first meeting. Ouachita has won four of the last five against the Rangers. Northwestern has won three of the last four in Percefull Fieldhouse.
