Bethany, Oklahoma - The Rangers hit the road to face off against The Crimson Storm. Northwestern was swept by Southern Nazarene and fell to a 16-11 overall record and a 7-6 GAC. Addison Wimmer led her team with 13 kills and Cameron Lobb led with 26 assists. Andrea Coady accumulated 20 digs.
Set One:
The two teams started the match exchanging point for point. Freshman Abree Elsheimer contributed a deep kill. Addison Wimmer also contributed a kill for Northwestern to tie the match 3-3. Southern Nazarene responded by stringing together two 2-point runs to push the Rangers into a timeout. Out of the timeout, Tarra Parks contributed a kill. The Crimson Storm fired back by extending their lead by going on a 5-0 run 12-5. Parks responded for the Rangers with another kill. Southern Nazarene fired back with a solo block and kill to force Northwestern into another timeout at 18-10. Elsheimer and Wimmer fired off a kill each. Despite their efforts, the Storm clinched the first 25-15.
Set Two:
The second set started similar to the first with each team going point for point. Wimmer contributed back to back kills for Northwestern. Parks fired off a deep kill to propel the Rangers ahead 6-4. The Storm responded with a 3-0 run to retake the lead. Courtney Russell broke their run with a kill and Wimmer fired off an ace serve. Elsheimer contributed another kill to retake the lead 10-8 and force the Storm into a timeout. Jones and Wimmer contributed a kill each. Southeastern responded with back to back kills to push the Rangers into a timeout. Out of the timeout, Wimmer powered through the block for a kill to continue Northwestern's lead 16-13. Parks fired off another deep kill. Southern Nazarene responded with a middle quick and an ace serve to close the gap. Another kill from the Storm forced the Rangers into a timeout 21-20. Wimmer responded with back to back kills. Russell contributed a soloblock kill. Southern Nazarene responded with a late 3-0 run to extend the set into extra points and take the second 26-24.
Set Three:
Once again both teams started the match with a bit of a stalemate. Jones fired off a middle kill. The Storm started to pull away with a 3-0 run to lead the match 7-4 and force the Rangers into an early timeout. Wimmer powered through the block for another kill. Northwestern capitalized on Southern Nazarene's errors to close the gap 9-7. The Storm fired back with a 8-0 run to extend their lead. Elsheimer contributed back to back kills to close the gap 18-10. Wimmer contributed a line kill. Southern Nazarene continued running claiming the match 25-15.
The Rangers continue conference play at home on Friday the 28th against Oklahoma Baptist University. Northwestern will honor its seniors at Percefull Fieldhouse with first serve set at 6 PM.
