Rangers Drop First Home Match of the Season

Alva, Oklahoma - The Rangers broke their regime of conference games for the last match of their homestand against Oklahoma Christian and fell to the Eagles 3-1. Carmae Jones led her teams in kills with 13. Andrea Coady collected 30 digs and Cameron Lobb led with 24 assists.  
 

Set One: 

The Eagles scored the first point of the match with a free ball kill. Courtney Russell quickly responded for the Rangers with a deep corner kill. The teams settled into a point for point exchange until a 3-0 run from the Eagles forced Northwestern into a timeout 8-4. A right side kill from Carmae Jones allowed the Rangers to halt Oklahoma Chirstian's momentum. The Eagles fired back with an ace serve to further their lead 17-7. Russell contributed another kill. Back to back aces allowed Oklahoma Christian to take the first set 25-11.
 

Set Two: 

Oklahoma Christian came out strong in the second with a service ace. Russell responded for Northwestern with a kill from the right side. Once again, both teams settled in and went point for point. The Eagles started to pull away with back to back kills, leading set two 6-3. Tarra Parks broke their run with a kill from the outside. Russell fired off an ace serve to add to the Ranger momentum. Northwestern capitalized on Eagle errors to trail by one and force Oklahoma Christian into a timeout 9-8. Addison Wimmer and Ravyn Burns contributed a kill each to allow Northwestern to take the lead for the first time in the match 15-11. Back to back kills from Jones extended Northwestern's lead 20-15. Another ace from Russell allowed the Rangers to clinch the second set 25-16. 
 

Set Three: 

The Eagles started the third with a 3-0 run to take an early lead over Northwestern. Jones ended their momentum with a kill from the middle. Russell contributed a kill from the back row to leave the Rangers trailing 6-4. Oklahoma Christian responded with a 5-0 run to establish a dominant lead and force Northwestern into a timeout 11-4. Jones fought back for Northwestern with back to back kills from the middle to close the gap 18-7. The Eagles continued string together runs. A service ace from Oklahoma Christian allowed them to take the third 25-13 and lead the match 2-1. 
 

Set Four: 

Oklahoma Christian built off their momentum in the previous set with back to back kills. Northwestern quickly responded with a kill from Burns. The Eagles fired back with another set of kills to lead 5-3. Jones contributed back to back kills for Northwestern to force Oklahoma Christian into a timeout. The Eagles bounced back with a 4-0 run to extend their lead 9-4 and force Northwestern into a timeout. Jones responded with back to back kills. Off the bench, Abree Elsheimer contributed an ace to close the gap 11-6. Oklahoma Christian fired back with an ace to hold onto their lead 16-12. Jones contributed another kill for the Rangers. Burns fought back with back to back solo-blocks. The late 3-0 run from the Eagles allowed them to come out on top over Northwestern 25-21. 

 

The Rangers will hit the road for back to back games in Arkansas. In their first match they face off against Harding University in Searcy. Northwestern will hit the floor at 6:00 PM on Thursday the 6th.
