Rangers Set for Gac Tournament

WEATHERFORD, OKLAHOMA - The second straight season Northwestern Ranger Soccer will playing in the Great American Conference Tournament Thursday afternoon. The Rangers on Wednesday had six players earn GAC recognition from the All- GAC teams. Kickoff is set for 2:30 PM in Weatherford following the completion of the opening game Oklahoma Baptist vs Ouachita Baptist.

Northwestern (7-4-7, 4-2-6 GAC) travels to Weatherford Oklahoma to face Southwestern Oklahoma State (7-4-7, 7-0-5 GAC) for third time this season. The Rangers are 0-1-1 on the year against the Bulldogs following a 2-0 lost in Weatherford before tying in a 0-0 match in Alva.

The Thursday match features two of the top defenses in the conference as the Bulldogs and the Rangers have give up the two least amoutn of goals in the conference this season. Northwestern ranks second wth 20 goals on the year allowed right behind Southwestern who has allowed 18 on the year. The two teams are tied for first for the most shutouts of the season with eight on the year. The Red-and-Black have three goalies with at least one shutout while Rachel Brown leads with four, Maggie Koster has three, and Angel Chase with one.

Taylor Songster, and Kaitlyn Morphy, earned second team ALL-GAC lead the charge in the Ranger defense as Songster led the team in minutes played this season. Offensively the Rangers were led in goals by forward Abby Nunez with six this season who earned honorable mention Wednesday evening. Two of her six goals included game winners for the season.

Kailani Kealoha, and Aaliyah Acevedo both earned ALL GAC teams as Kealoha finished with one goal and an assist for the Ranger midfield while Acevedo had a goal and two assist as a defender this season.

For the Bulldogs their leading goal scorer was Alimata Rabo with 13 on the season adding two assists for a total of 28 points on the year as she earned offensive player of the year. She was one of nine Bulldog players to earn All- GAC honors.

All seven meetings since 2019 have been decided within two goals. The Rangers are 0-4-3 in those seven meetings against the Bulldogs.
