ALVA OKLA- The Ranger Baseball team will continue in the 2022 Ranger festival following a 10-7 victory over New Mexico Highlands to start the weekend. Northwestern battled back with a four run fifth inning to take the weekend opener.
Northwestern (2-3 overall) will look to carry momentum into their Saturday matchup against Washburn University set for a 2:30 PM first pitch.
Shaughn Kelly continues to lead the Rangers in hitting with a .478 average with 11-23 from the plate with a double and a home run. Blake Hoffman leads the Rangers with two home runs on the season and 7 RBIs after a three hit performance on Friday afternoon. Dylan Norsen is second with 4-RBI on the season with two doubles and a home run for the Ranger's offense.
Northwestern's pitching staff is led in strikeouts by Kayden Whetstone and Emilio Lovato both with seven on the season in one appearance. Edwin Colon picked up his second save of the season Friday after a scoreless ninth inning, now throwing three straight scoreless innings to open the season.
Scouting Washburn:
Washburn enters play 2-3 on the season like the Rangers after opening the Rangers Festival with a Friday victory over Oklahoma Baptist 7-3.
The Washburn offense is led by Easton Bruce with a .364 average in four games played with four hits on the season, one extra base hit being a double. Connor Scoutt is the only other player above the .300 mark on the season at .318 with seven hits in five games played with three doubles on the year. Zion Bowlin has hit the Ichobad's lone home run so far this season.
Dalton Huggins has led the Washburn pitching staff out of the bullpen with three appearances with a 1-0 record and a 0.00 ERA and the most innings pitched at eight with 14 strikeouts. Rane Pfeifer is 1-1 in two starts made with 10 strikeouts in seven innings of work.

The series history between the two teams is tied at 1-1 after the two teams split the season series in 2020 with an even run differential of 6-6. Those were the first two meetings between the two teams played in Alva.
