Ranger Baseball Set To Host New Mexico Highlands to Close Out Ranger Festival

 ALVA, OKLA- Ranger Baseball will conclude the 2022 Ranger Festival this afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 3:30 PM as the Rangers play host to New Mexico Highlands for the second time in three days. The Rangers have played two games so far in the Festival going 1-1 after beating New Mexico Hghlands Friday before falling to Washburn Saturday. 
 
The Rangers (2-4 overall and 0-0 GAC) will be coming off a loss Saturday to Washburn as the Rangers look to get back in the win column on Sunday. 

Northwestern continues to hit the ball well as the Rangers have scored 17 runs in the last two games have scored at least five run in each of their last five games. Shaughn Kelly leads the team in hitting with a .407 batting average through the opening six games of the season with 11 hits in these games. Hayden Priest with an even .400 with six hits follows him and two home runs. Blake Hoffman has heated up with two home runs so far in the festival giving him a team high three on the season with a .296 batting average with eight RBI, also a team high. As a team the Rangers are hitting .297 with 11 home runs on the season.

On the mound for Northwestern Edwin Colon has thrown three scoreless innings picking up two saves on the season in his three outings. Ethan Swanson and Connor Gibson lead the team in innings pitched with 8.2 on the season. Emilio Lovato and Connor Gibson lead the team with one win on the season. Kayden Whetstone leads the team wtih eight strikeouts on the season wtih Lovato sitting at seven. 
 
Scouting the opponent New Mexico Highlands:
New Mexico Highlands is coming off a two game series this past weekend dropping both games one to Colorado State Pueblo followed by West Texas A&M University before losing three straight during the Ranger festival. 
 
Through two games on the season Joe Kuhn leads the team in batting average along with Brandon Baier each going 3-6 in the two opening games. Estevan De La O leads the eam with 4 RBI with an average of .300. Kuhn and Baier each have two doubles on the season along with Eric Papas for the team lead.

Hunter Waugh and Angel Castillo received the two starts. Hunter Vancurler and Dominick Castillo both pitched scoreless innings for the Cowboys in their opening weekend. Waugh leads the team with four strikeouts in three innings of work. 
 
History: 
This will be only the second meeting between the two programs overall Rangers leading 1-0 after beating New Mexico Friday 10-7 in a comeback win following a four fun 5th inning.
