ALVA, Okla- Northwestern Oklahoma State baseball is ready to host their first conference series of the season. The Rangers will host Arkansas- Monticello this weekend with a single game Saturday at 2:00 PM followed by a Sunday doubleheader starting at Noon.
The Rangers (3-7 overall, and 0-3 GAC) enter Saturday on a three game losing streak after dropping three straight games to Southern Arkansas this past weekend.
The Rangers offense has five hitters above the .300 mark on the season as Hayden Priest leads the way at .417 with an OBP of .419. He is tied for the team lead in home runs with three alongside Shaughn Kelly and Blake Hoffman, combining for nine of the 15 total team home runs. Kelly, Hoffman , Brandon Holdren, and Brayden Koenig are the other Northwestern hitters above the .300 line. Priest and Hoffman are tied with 9 RBI on the season.
Northwestern enters the weekend with wins from Connor Gibson, Emilio Lovato, and Dylan Collins. Lovato has started three games on the season throwing the most innings at 17.1 while striking out 20 opposing hitters. Gibson is second in innings pitched with 12 all coming in relief. Ethan Swanson is third in innings pitched striking out 12 in his work this season. Edwin Colon has thrown five innings picking up two saves on the season while striking out seven and allowing one unearned run.
Scouting the Weevils:
The Weevils (3-5 overall and 1-2 GAC) enter play Saturday dropping four of their last five games including their first conference series in Monticello to Southwestern.
As a team Arkansas-Monticello comes in averaging a .234 batting average with two players above the .300 mark. Cade Thompson leads the team at .364 followed by Hudson Hopkins hitting .333 on the season. Thompson leads the team with three home runs on the season with 10 RBIs for the Weevils. Jordan Johnson is second with two home runs with five RBIs.
Their pitching staff is led by Spencer Johnston making three appearances with two starts with an ERA of 3.86. He has thrown the second most innings on the team at 14. Mason Philley leads the team with 15.1 innings of work with an ERA of 4.70. Their three wins have been earned by Johnston, Derek Potts and Charles Peacock.
History:
Arkansas-Monticello comes into the weekend with a 17-10 lead in the series history between the two programs. The Rangers lead 3-2 in the last five meetings after splitting last season's meeting two games each through the four meetings between the two programs.
