Ranger Baseball Set For Mid-Week Game Versus Newman

ALVA, OKLA- Ranger Baseball will host a non-conference mid-week game against the Newman Jets with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 PM on Glass Family Field and Myers Stadium. 
 

The Rangers (1-2 overall and 0-0 GAC) will be coming off a win Monday afternoon 8-4 over Minnesota Crookston. Emilio Lovato threw seven strong innings for the Rangers in picking up his first win of the season before Edwin Colon closed out a six out save.
 

Offensively the bats came alive for the Rangers after getting shut out in the season opener, Northwestern turned around to score 17 runs in the final two games of the series. Through the first three games of the 2022 season Shaughn Kelly has gotten off to a fast start hitting .429 on the year following six hits in the opening series. This included one home run along with two RBIs, and the only steal for the Rangers that weekend. Brandon Holdren and Dylan Norsen each had three extra base hits as Norsen hit 2 doubles along with a home run and Holdren had three doubles. Hoffman leads the team with 4 RBI along with Norsen. As a team Northwestern hit .287 with four home runs in their first series of the season.
 

Northwestern pitching in relief Kayden Whetstone and Matthew Potts, and Edwin Colon all three scoreless relief innings for the Rangers. Colon picked up a save on Monday. Whetstone is tied with 7 SO on the Rangers alongside Emilio Lovato who threw seven innings in his first win of the season striking out seven. As a team Northwestern enters Wednesday with a team ERA of 7.00 in the opening 27 innings of the season.
 

Scouting the opponent Newman: 

The Newman Jets will be coming off a series win over Great American Conference opponent Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm. The Jets (3-1 overall, 0-0 MIAA) enter Wednesday afternoon winning three straight after dropping the series opener. 
 

Newman offensively scored 36 runs in their opening series this season. They were led by Hayden VanDePol having eight hits in the four games hitting an even .500 alongside Carson Hawks. VanDePol has a team lead of two home runs and 7 RBIs. He is tied for the RBI leader with Jenner Steele who had four extra base hits three doubles and triple. As a team the Jets enter play with a team .358 batting average and five home runs on the season through four games.
 

Connor Langrell threw the most innings out of the bullpen, throwing three innings in two appearances and earning a win in one of those two games. Ian Leci also saw time in two relief appearances. Asher Finke and Nate Denniston were the team's leading starting pitchers and threw the opening four games each going six innings and picking up a win. Finke led the team with six scoreless innings and nine strikeouts. As a team Newman enters this game with a team ERA of 5.59 through their first 29 innings this season.
 

History: 

The Red-and-Black entered Wednesday afternoon trailing the series history between the two teams 3-5 in eight total games played. Northwestern however has won the last three games as they look to continue the success over the Jets in recent history.

The last meeting between the two teams was February 2020 when the Rangers won 11-6 in Alva. Northwestern is 2-2 in games played in Alva against the Jets including winning the last two. The Rangers have outscored the Jets 24-12 over the last three games as well.
