ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern closed out their series with Southeastern Sunday afternoon as the Savage Storm won both games taking the first one 14-0 followed by a 13-9 win scoring six in the seventh inning. This completed the win for Southeastern Oklahoma State.
The Rangers fall to 9-11 on the season with a 3-8 conference record as Southeastern improves to 17-11 on the year with an 8-3 GAC record.
GAME ONE:
Hannah Howell received the game two start for the Rangers, throwing 2.2 innings striking out one allowing seven runs before being relieved by Allison Hufford who finished the final 2.1 innings for the Rangers allowing six earned runs. Offensively Northwestern had one hit by Genesis Rodriguez.
Southeastern struck first with a run in the first inning following a leadoff walk. After a sacrifice bunt pushed her to second the first run would come home on a double by Mahy. Rangers went down in order in their half of the inning.
The game stayed 1-0 until the top of the 3rd inning when the Savage Storm's offense struck again with six runs in the inning. Things got started on a Streetman walk before a single by Mahy drove her home for a 2-0 lead. Wallace then hit a 2-run home run to push the visitors lead to 4-0.
Their half of the inning did not end there following a Alvarado double was hit in on an Ore single. Durst followed with the teams second two run home run of the inning extending the Storm's lead to 7-0.
In the fourth inning the Savage Storm extended their lead with three runs on a Wallace sacrifice fly after Fryrear reached base safely, moving Mahy to third. Galloway singled to left field pushing the lead to 9-0 before a Durst fielder choice gave the Savage Storm a 10-0 lead.
Northwestern went down quietly in their half of the fourth inning before Southeastern pushed four runs across for a 14-0 lead. A leadoff double started the inning before a single by White drove home the 11th run. A Fryrear double and an Alvarado single ended the scoring for game one as Northwestern was retired in order.
GAME TWO:
The Rangers offense went for nine runs behind a three hit game from Abby DeTar, and Mackenzie Adams. Adams had a team high four RBIs followed by DeTar with two. Lindsey McElroy and Allison Zanca each had two hits in the loss.
Hannah Scoggin started the second game of the doubleheader throwing 6.2 innings striking out three batters allowing 12 runs in the game. She was relieved by Victoria Vasquez who closed out the seventh inning.
The first inning started with the two teams trading a three spot on the scoreboard. A walk and a single led to a Mahy double pushing the first run across the plate. Wallace knocked in a run on a fielder's choice followed by an Alvarado ground out for a 3-0 early lead in the 1st inning.
Northwestern was ready to answer back though following a leadoff double, McElroy reached safely before stealing second, setting up two runners in scoring position. After the Savage Storm got their first out Adams followed with a three-run home run to left field to tie the game at 3-3.
The pitchers settled in for the second inning as both teams retired one another in order. In the third inning Southeastern had a leadoff walk followed by a steal, setting up a runner on second. She would be knocked in on a Wallace double to left field for a 4-3 lead through three innings.
In the fourth inning Sreetman drew a walk before runners were on second and third for a Fryrear single to center field taking a 6-3 lead for Southeastern. Northwestern was ready to answer back though with a four run inning to take their first lead of the game. Rodriguez started things off with a single followed by a DeTar double. McElroy then hit a single to score the first run before a Kelsey Bushy single followed by an Adams double tied the game back at 6-6. Zanca then delivered an RBI single scoring Adams giving the Rangers their first lead of the game.
As the Rangers carried a 7-6 lead into the sixth inning DeTar extended the Rangers lead to 9-6 following a two- run home run to left center scoring Rodriguez.
In the seventh inning the Savage Storm struck for seven runs to regain the lead. Mahy started the inning with a walk before Fryrear cut their deficit to one on a two run home run. As Southeastern hit back-to-back singles to left center a Durst double pushed their lead to 10-9 before an Ore home run made it 12-9. They would add one more run before heading to the last half inning with a 13-9 lead. Southeastern held on for a comeback 13-9 win over the Rangers after being retired in order.
Northwestern will travel to Missouri to play Southwest Baptist Wednesday afternoon before returning home for a conference weekend series against Henderson State the next weekend.
