Northwestern Set to Host Ouachita Baptist For a Three Game Conference Series

ALVA, OKLAHOMA -  Northwestern Oklahoma State baseball is set to begin a three game series against Ouachita Baptist Friday through Saturday. Friday will be an afternoon doubleheader with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 PM, with the second game following 30 minutes after the last pitch. Saturday will be a special day with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 PM as Northwestern will do a Make-A-Wish celebration before the game. 

 

The Rangers (11-14 overall, and 7-8 GAC) enter Friday on an eight game win streak at home as Northwestern will look to continue to take advantage at home. Northwestern overall has a 10-4 record at Glass Family Field at Myers Stadium. Overall the Red-and-Black entered 2-3 in their last five games.

 

Northwestern has been led by Yugo Hamakawa in batting average hitting .373 this season with four home runs along with 24 RBI's this season. He has a team high .495 OBP% this season. He is one of six players hitting above .300 in the 2022 season to date. He is joined by Brandon Holdren hitting .348 with three home runs and 19 RBIs. Brayden Koenig hitting .345 with three home runs and 18 RBI, Blake Hoffman hitting .333 with a team high seven home runs and 28-RBI this season. Hayden Priest at .329 with five home runs and 20 RBIs and lastly Shaughn Kelly with a .311 average hitting six home runs with 24 RBIs. As a team the Rangers are hitting .288 with 37 home runs and 169 RBIs in 25 games this season. 

 

The pitching staff has been led by Edwin Colon with a 1.04 ERA in 11 appearances posting a 4-0 record with two saves in 17 innings of work striking out 13 through those innings. Opponents are hitting .222 off him. Ethan Swanson is second with an 6.11 ERA in seven appearances striking out 35 batters in 28 innings of work.Opponents are hitting .194 off him, a team best. Emilio Lovato has thrown the most innings for the Rangers this season with 35.2 while striking out 41 batters. 

 

Scouting Ouachita Baptist:

The Tigers (16-9 overall and 11-4 GAC) enter play winning their last series over Southwestern two games to three winning four of their last five games. They enter play with a 6-3 road record on the season. 

 

Ouachita Baptist is led by Jud Arringotn with a .368 batting average in 25 games this season to lead the Tigers as one of four players hitting above .300 on qualified hitters. Wyatt Core is second at .367 followed by Dustin Bermudez and Tallon Heine. Allen has a team high six home runs with 24 RBIs on the season while Wyatt Core has the most RBIs with 26 on the season going with five home runs. 

 

The Tigers pitching staff is led by Caleb Donoho with a 3.60 ERA in 10 innings of work picking up one win in 10 appearances. They have two players tied with three wins led by Cooper Timmons, and Cameron Marchant both throwing in eight games this season. Beau Burson leads the team with 35 innings thrown this season. They have five different players with at least one save on the season in Burson, Gautreaux, Marchant, Hermes and Wade. 

 

History: 

Friday and Saturday will feature game numbers 25-27 between the two programs. The Rangers lead the series 14-10 overall after winning nine of the last 10 games including nine straight. Northwestern has swept the Tigers in three straight seasons. Northwestern is on a four game win streak in Alva in the series.
