Ranger Baseball Travels to Wichita for Mid-Week Game vs. Newman

ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State baseball hits the road for a mid-week non conference game as the team travels to Wichita, Kansas to take on Newman University. This will be the second meeting between the two teams this season after Newman won the first in Alva. This will be a single game with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 PM.
 

The Rangers (9-8 overall and 6-3 GAC) enter Wednesday winners in six of the last eight games including three straight over East Central. Northwestern will look for their first road win of the season entering playing 0-4 away from Alva. 
 

Northwestern's offense as a team is hitting .296 with 66 total extra base hits including 32 home runs and doubles in 17 games played. Hayden Priest leads the team in batting average with a .426 average as one of five hitters over .300 on the season. This included Yugo Hamakawa at .389 followed by Brayden Koenig (.358), Brandon Holdren (.350) and Blake Hoffman at (.329) on the year. The Rangers have three hitters tied with five home runs on the season in Priest, Hoffman, and Kelly. Hoffman leads the team with 20 RBIs hit this season with Shaughn Kelly second with 18. Hamakawa leads the team with a .515 OBP% out of qualified hitters. 
 

The pitching staff led in starts by Emilio Lovato with five on the season throwing a team high 28 innings through those starts. Dylan Collins leads the team with three wins on the season in six appearances with Edwin Colon second with two wins and a team high two saves in eight appearances this season and a 1.74 ERA.. Lovato leads the team with 34 strike outs on the season before four players are tied with 13. 
 

Scouting the Jets:

The Jets (11-7 overall, and 2-4 MIAA) enter play losing three straight to Washburn and are 2-4 in their last six games including a series win over Rogers State. The Jets are 3-4 at home in Wichita after losing three straight on McCarthy Field. 
 

Newman's offense is led by Hayden VanDePol with a .386 average as one six hitters above the .300 mark including Tyler Push, Jenner Steele, Zack Hargrove, Lincoln Choate, and Carson Hawks. VanDePol leads the tema with five home runs on the season in 18 games played with Steele being the team RBI leader with 25 on the season. The team has hit 30 home runs in 18 games played this season. 
 

Asher Finke leads the Jets pitching staff with a 3.23 ERA in five starts made with a 3-1 record on the season throwing one complete game shout out this season. He has struck out 32 batters in 30 innings of work. Garrett VandeVenter is 3-0 this season in six appearances made including three starts this season. Connor Langrell leads the team with three saves this season in seven appearances while picking up one win on the year as well in eight innings of work. 
 

History:
 

This will be the 14 meeting of the series history between the two teams since 2013 and the second and final scheduled meeting this season. Northwestern is 3-2 in the last five meetings between the two schools including winning the last one in Wichita by a final 2-1. 
 

Newman won the first meeting in Alva this season in February 17-5 over the Rangers.Brady Bowles received the start that afternoon, throwing three innings for the Rangers. Koenig led the team with three hits with Kitazaki leading the team with 2 RBIs.
