EMPORIA, KANSAS - Northwestern Oklahoma State Baseball hits the road for a non-conference game against Emporia State University. This will be a single game with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 PM on the road in Kansas.
Northwestern (18-23, 11-16) is coming off a series against Harding University where the Rangers won the series finale. Rangers enter the Monday game with a 4-15 road record. The Rangers are coming off a 2-2 record with a Tuesday win over East Central.
At the plate the Rangers are led by Yugo Hamakawa with a .387 batting average as one of four Rangers hitting above .300 on the season. Blake Hoffman is second on the team with a .346 batting average followed by Brandon Holdren and Brayden Koenig. Hoffman leads the team with 11 home runs and 45 RBIs on the season. Hamakawa is second in RBI with 36 this season along with six home runs. Shaughn Kelly is second on the team with seven home runs on the year with 34 RBI this season. The Rangers as a team are hitting .293 with 53 home runs and 260 RBIs.
On the mound the Rangers are led in wins by Edwin Colon with five this season with an ERA of 3.80 this season. Emilo Lovato leads the team with 57 innings thrown with three wins on the season and the second most strikeouts on the team. Ethan Swanson is first in strikeouts with 60 on the season. Dylan Collins is second on the team with four wins on the year.
Scouting the Hornets:
Emporia State enters play 16-25 overall with a 10-17 record in the MIAA. The Hornets are 3-2 in their last five games being played at home. They entered play with a 10-15 overall record in Emporia.
Sam Chaput leads the team on offense with a .353 batting average with six home runs and 23-RBI this season. He is one of four hitters above the .300 mark alongside TJ Racherbaumer, Noah Geekie, and Blake Carroll. Racherbaumer leads the team with eight home runs on the season with a team high 32-RBI as well. Blake Carroll is second on the team with 25 RBI hits in this season.
On the mound Jared Kengott leads the team with a 3.81 ERA with a 2-1 record in 52 innings pitched on the year. Dawson Smith is second with a 3.86 ERA in nine innings of work. Noah Geekie is second on the team in innings pitched with 45 on the season tied with Aaron Bechtel.
History:
The Rangers won the first ever meeting between the two programs early this season with a 4-3 victory in Alva on April 4th. Hoffman led the team with a 2-RBI afternoon with three hits in the win. Rangers will look to make it two in a row over the Hornets.
