Alva, Oklahoma - Sunday afternoon the Rangers hosted their second non-conference game of the season against Newman University. The Rangers were able to find momentum late in the first half finding the back of the net twice. This helped lead to Northwestern being able to score one more goal in the second half, finishing the match 3-1 over the Jets.
Abby Nunez led Northwestern with four shots and Callie Haneborg had three. Nunez scored one out of her five attempts. Christi-Anne Mills had two shots, one goal, and one assist throughout the match for a three point afternoon. Rangers led in shots 20-7 over the Jets with 10 of those being on goal for the Rangers. Maggie Koster finished the afternoon with five saves helping the Ranger pickup the victory.
Christi-Anne Mills scored the first goal of the afternoon for the Rangers twenty-seven minutes into the first half with an assist from Isabella Mcmillan. Just five minutes later, thirty-two minutes into the half, Mills created another scoring opportunity assisting Victoria Ruvalcaba for the second goal of the afternoon. The Rangers had ten shots and the Jets with three to end the half. The Rangers went into half time with a 2-0 lead over the Jets.
Abby Nunez capitialized on a scoring opportunity as she scored the third goal of the afternoon with an assist from Giselle Holguin seventy-one minutes into the match for her third of the season. The Jets would move forward to make their first goal of the game eighty-one minutes in cutting their deficit to two at 3-1. The Rangers were able to maintain control of the match the rest of the way, as the defense was able to keep the Jets to a single goal.
Northwestern wins their second game of the season with a 3-1 victory over Newman University. Rangers move to 2-0 in the season while the Jets fall to 0-2 this season.
Rangers will host Wayne State on Thursday evening at Ranger Soccer Field with a 6:00 PM kickoff looking for their third straight win on the season.
