Rangers Comeback to Beat the Tigers

Alva, Oklahoma - The Rangers continued conference play this weekend facing off against the Tigers from East Central. Northwestern dropped the first set but quickly recovered to take the four set game 3-1. This win advances them to a 2-0 conference record. Addison Wimmer collected a double double with 25 kills and 11 digs. Tarra Parks also collected a double double with 13 kills and 16 digs. Andrea Coady led the team in digs with 34 and Cameron Lobb led in assists with 53. 

Set One: 

Both teams struggled to take a strong lead at the start of the match. Sophomore Addison Wimmer and Junior Courtney Russell contributed a kill each. A 5-1 run from the Tigers forced the Rangers into a timeout at 7-5. Out of the timeout, East Central continued to run. Wimmer contributed back to back kills to keep Northwestern's momentum and close the gap 12-9. Carmae Jones contributed a middle tip for the Rangers. Tarra Parks and Russell both fired off kills off the block to further close the gap on the Tigers. A huge solo block by Parks tied the game 15-15, forcing East Central into a timeout. Russell contributed another donut tip and Parks fired off a line shot to extend the tie 18-18. The game turned into a stalemate as both teams went point for point. Back to back kills from Wimmer allowed Northwestern to pull away by one 24-23. A kill from East Central pushed the game into extra points. Jones contributed an attack from the middle. Russell fired off an untouchable line shot. An ace from the Tigers allowed them to clench the first set 28-26. 

Set Two: 

Kills from Wimmer allowed Northwestern to start the game with a slight lead. The Tigers fought back with kills from the middle and outside. A 3-0 run from East Central tied the game 6-6 and forced the Rangers into a timeout. Out of the timeout, the Tigers continued to run. A middle kill from Ravyn Burns ended their momentum. Wimmer contributed back to back kills to leave Northwestern trailing by one 11-10. Another late run from East Central forced the Rangers into a timeout. Back to back kills through the block from Russell kept the momentum on Northwestern's side. Burns contributed a deep corner slide kill to close the gap 16-14 on the Tigers. A solo block from Wimmer pushed Northwestern into the lead 18-17 and forced the Tigers into a timeout. Back to back kills from Wimmer extended the Ranger lead and forced East Central into another timeout 21-18. Wimmer continued to heat up, firing off kill after kill and leading Northwestern to a set two victory 25-19. 

Set Three: 

Jones came out of the gate with a ten foot kill for the Rangers. East Central fought back with a setter dump. Parks powered through the block to contribute a kill and leave Northwestern trailing 4-3. An early run from the Tigers extended their lead and forced the Rangers into a timeout. Out of the break, a missed serve from East Central and a kill from Parks allowed Northwestern to climb 6-5. The Tigers responded with back to back ace serves forcing Northwestern into another timeout and extending their lead 10-7. Off the bench, sophomore Brooke Miller fired off an ace serve. Wimmer contributed a kill to close the gap 12-10. Both teams battled point for point as the Tigers remained ahead. A solo block from Parks tied the game 15-15 and switched the momentum to the home team. Burns contributed a deep corner kill and cut shot kill from the middle for Northwestern. East Central responded with a solo block to reclaim the lead 19-17. Burns fired off another kill with a slide. Wimmer contributed a kill to tie the game once more at 20-20. A hustle play from Wimmer and cut shot kill from Parks forced the Tigers into a late timeout at 23-21. Northwestern capitalized on Tiger errors to take the third set 25-21. Wimmer led with 21 kills and Coady led with 24 digs for the Rangers. 

Set Four:

An East Central ball handling error and a solo block from Jones allowed Northwestern to get an early lead. A middle kill from Jones forced the Tigers into an early timeout, trailing 4-0. Out of the timeout, Northwestern continued to capitalize on East Central errors. The Tigers broke the run with a middle kill trailing 7-1. Multiple offensive and defensive errors from East Central allowed the Rangers to continue to extend their lead 13-3 and force the Tigers into another timeout. Burns contributed a middle kill and solo block to further Northwestern's momentum. A kill from Wimmer kept the Rangers ahead 16-6. A late 3-0 run from the Tigers forced Northwestern into a timeout at 16-9. Wimmer ended the run with an untouchable line kill. Jones contributed another solo block and junior Cameron Lobb fired off an ace to further Northwestern's lead 20-9. Kills from Wimmer and Parks secured Northwestern's match win 25-13.

Northwestern Volleyball hits the road facing off against The Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma State University on Tuesday. The game is set for 6:00 PM in Durant Oklahoma.
