ALVA, OKLAHOMA - The Ranger Football team was home for the second consecutive week on Saturday. Northwestern dropped the afternoon conference matchup against East Central. The Tigers took the lead in the opening quarter but took the momentum fully in the game with a 28 point second quarter.
The loss drops the Rangers to 0-6 on the season while East Central improves to 3-4 on the season.
Jashaun Foster finished with 106 rushing yards on the game while Travis Romar had 32 receiving and a touchdown.
East Central scored early in this one with a touchdown on the opening drive of the game. The five play drive was sparked by a 36 yard pass setting up a 15 yard passing touchdown to Magalei. Following the opening drive touchdown the Rangers defense held the Tigers forcing two punts just like the Rangers.
After remaining scoreless the rest of the first quarter East Central was able to complete their last drive to open the second quarter. The drive was capped off by a touchdown pass to C.J Moore for a seven yard touchdown. With the Rangers trailing 14-0 at the time The Tigers forced the Rangers into a punt taking over in Ranger territory. East Central completed a three play drive to extend their lead to 21-0. On the first play on the Rangers next drive Darian Williams of East Central was able to extend the Tiger lead with an interception for a touchdown. This gave the visitors a 28-0 lead. East Central was able to grab one more touchdown before the half ended. The Rangers tried to answer following a 35 yard rush by Jashaun Foster. Northwestern got down to the East Central two yard line but the Tiger defense held the Rangers off the board before the half as Northwestern trailed 35-0.
The third quarter was a defensive battle as neither team was able to get on the board in the quarter. Rangers started with the ball going three and out. As the Tigers were driving the Northwestern defense was able to slow the Tiger offense down with an interception by Barrett Gilbreath. The game remained 35-0 following the interception into the quarter end.
East Central in the fourth quarter was the first on the board following a 10 play drive that ended in a six yard touchdown run. A 30 yard rush was the big play on the drive setting up the touchdown. The Rangers closed out their first touchdown on the final drive of the game. A 19 yard run kept the drive alive by J. Foster down to the East Central 25. Another 10 yard run setup the final play of the game where Caleb Deal threw a touchdown pass to Travis Romar for 12 yards. The final score was 42-7.
The Rangers travel to Oklahoma Baptist in Shawnee next week's game on Saturday October 21st with a 7 PM kickoff.
