ALVA, OKLAHOMA - The Ranger Soccer team played at home Wednesday against the Tigers of East Central. Northwestern scored in the opening half on a goal from Victoria Ruvalcaba, but the Tigers answered early in the second half to play to a draw.
Northwestern now goes to 2-6-8 on the season with a 1-3-5 conference record. The eight ties are the record for the program in one season.Â
Rachel Brown finished the game with six saves in the evening helping to the tie.Â
The Rangers had a couple of scoring opportunities on a couple early shots from Isabella Mcmillan in the opening minutes including a header over the net. Ruvalcaba put the first shot on goal to the center as East Central's goalkeeper Leveling Mckenna made the save. Rachel Brown made her first save on a shot from Lorianne Baugh.Â
Northwestern struck at the 26:56 mark of the half as Ruvalcaba sent one to the back of the net giving the Rangers a 1-0 lead. This was Ruvalcaba's second goal of the season. The Ranger defense helped keep the ball on the offensive side only allowing one other shot in the first half.Â
The Rangers carried the 1-0 lead into halftime.Â
East Central capitalized on their first opportunity in the second half tying the game on a goal from Lorianne Baugh. Mcmillan quickly put a shot on goal following the Tiger goal but was saved by McKennaÂ
Rachel Brown was able to keep the game tied with back to back saves on shots from Baugh who had a rebound opportunity. Northwestern looked to break the tie with three shots on goal in the final eight minutes.Â
The final was 1-1 as the Ranger and Tigers ended in a draw.
Ranger Soccer will return to action next Wednesday at home against Southern Nazarene for the final home game of the season.Â
