ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State Women's Basketball team is set to open their 2023-2024 season on November 10th in the MIAA / GAC challenge. The season will tip-off against Northeastern State on Friday at 5:30 PM. This will be the first of a two game weekend that concludes with Central Oklahoam at 1:00 PM Saturday.
The weekend openers will be the first of a 30 game slate this season before the home opener on Tuesday November 14th against Kansas Christian.Â
Northwestern is led by Tasha Diesselhorst entering her eighth season with the Rangers. The staff also includes assistant coaches Kinsey Neiderer, Randy Turney, and student manager Taylor Ellis. The Rangers are coming off a 12-14 season looking to get back in the conference tournament.Â
The Lady Rangers will return all starters from a year ago in Carly Craig, Camille Thomas, Talayah Thomas who started all 26 games and Josena Frame and Faith Simpson starting 23 of 26 games. Simpson returns as the team's leading scorer after averaging 18.2 points per game.Â
Overall the team brings back 13 players from the roster a season ago and adds six players including some experienced depth which includes five transfers.Â
Season opener starts with Northeastern State for the seventh overall meeting between the two since 2015. Northwestern will look for their first win against the Riverhawks since 2019 71-59 victory. The last meeting was a 73-56 loss. The previous match-up included four current Lady Rangers in the game.Â
The Saturday opponent is Central Oklahoma for the seventh meeting since 2015 as the Rangers look for their first win against Central Oklahoma in that stretch. The previous matchup was a 79-48 loss to the Bronchos.Â
After the weekend match up the Rangers will turn around for their home opener on Tuesday, November 14th before four straight road games including a trip to Honolulu, Hawaii against Chaminade and Stanislaus State.Â
