ALVA, OKLAHOMA- The end of the three-game series against Arkansas Tech fell in favor of the Golden Suns by a final score of 5-0.
Ireland Caro gets her second pitching start of the series today against the Golden Suns, and earned her first strikeout the first batter in. Two advancements were made by ATU onto base but then the second and third out were both completed in the center field by Macy Spearman holding the Golden Suns scoreless.
First two batters for Northwestern were outs, but then Hannah Howell and Abby DeTar were both hit by pitches securing two bases. Fifth batter in batted fly ball out in right field.
Third inning began with a walk for Arkansas Tech, and they were able to get the batter a reach to second off a sacrifice bunt. Play made on the bunt was from Caro to Clark at second. Ball was hit to Winters again their fourth batter in, and she was able to make the throw for the out. Bases were loaded for ATU after second walk of inning was made and were able to score 2 runs following the walk on a double for a 2-0 lead.
After Clark was able to make the third out, Lady Rangers continued to try and find their rhythm at the plate. Laney Anderson earned the first hit of the game for Northwestern with single into left field. Howell however hit final out of the inning into center field.
Outfield had continued to get action transitioning into the fourth inning earning first out in right field with catch made by Ashley Low. Arkansas Tech's second hit of the game was made following the out. After runner stole second, next batter hit double securing RBI, making the score now 3-0. Caro pitched her 34th strike of the game securing another strikeout. Third baseman Winters continually keeps feeding ball to Adams as they are hit to her, keep momentum high in the field going into the bottom of the inning.
First error of the game was made by ATU's second baseman, allowing DeTar to reach first base. As she advanced to second, she was out on fielder's choice and Low made it to first. After swinging strikeout, Clark also made it to first on fielder's choice but Low was out at second.
After single was hit by Golden Suns, a sacrifice bunt was hit to Clark at second and was able to get Adams the ball securing the out at first. DeTar was placed in left field today and was able to make her first play of the game with line drive hit directly to her. Fourth run of the game was made by Arkansas Tech after single was hit into left field. Final out was made by Clark again at second as they were able to catch the runner stealing.
First two batters had gotten out for Northwestern. Spearman's third at-bat was the team's second hit of the game she singled to third. Anderson got her second hit of the game, dominating the plate putting her and Spearman on base. Ground out hit by Howell ended their batting possession.
Pitching switch was made going into the sixth inning, with reliever Howell coming in for Caro. She pitched two strikeouts just three batters deep, and third out was complete by Oakley at shortstop.
Fourth hit of the game for Northwestern was made by DeTar, getting on first base after sending ball into left field. She advanced to second off a ground out hit by Low. Two outs in DeTar advanced to third off a single hit by Clark, her first of the game and fifth hit overall. No runs were completed however after fly out to right field was hit by Adams.
Warming back up in the seventh inning, Howell walked first batter but answered back with a strikeout for the batter on deck. Clark and Winters kept feeding ball to Adams to get back to batting and the first baseman earned seven putouts for the game today.
Ariana Potter pinch hit for Winters and struck out, and Spearman followed with ground out. With two outs, Anderson was walked to first. Game ended 5-0 for Golden suns to sweep this series.
Lady Rangers will face Newman University away this Monday, March 20th starting at 2:00pm.
