GOODWELL, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State Baseball snapped their seven game losing streak with a double digit victory over the Aggies. The Rangers won 16-4 behind two home run hits by Brandon Holdren. The Rangers jumped out early scoring a run in the first and two in the second leading the whole way.
The win improves the Rangers record to 14-18 overall on the season..
Holdren led the team with three hits, four-RBIs and two runs scored, with hits and RBIs being team highs. Harley and Jon Shaffer each had three-RBIs in the win. Trevor Saire led the team with three runs scored along with Paul Sachen and Jon Shaffer.
On the mound Hagen Barcello started the game throwing four innings allowing two runs before being relieved by Connor Gibson, Cole Rodriguez, Matthew Potts, and Garrett DeHaas.
Shaughn Kelly led the game off with a walk before Trevor Saire drove him home with an RBI double giving the Rangers an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Hagen Barcello, making his first start of the season, threw a scoreless bottom of the first inning getting Dibartolo to hit into an inning ending double play.
The Ranger offense jumped out in the second inning as Paul Sachen walked to start the inning before a two run home run by Jon Shaffer pushed the Ranger lead to 3-0 in the top of the second inning. Barcello threw his second straight scoreless inning retiring the side in order.
Each team had a couple base runners in the third inning but were left stranded as the game remained 3-0 until the fourth inning. Northwestern was able to add one more run as Brady Bejarano scored on an error. The Aggies were able to score two in their half of the inning as Dibartolo homered to right center field to cut the Ranger lead in half to 4-2.
Brandon Holdren was able to help the Rangers answer back the very next half inning as Trevor Saire led off with a walk before a Brandon Holdren 2-run home run put the Rangers back-up 6-2.
In the bottom of the fifth inning Bond singled back up the middle to score Arrieta to cut into the Ranger lead, as Northwestern held a 6-3 lead through five innings. Oklahoma Panhandle State continued to dive into the Ranger lead adding another run this time on a fielder's choice as the lead was 6-4.
Saire started the rally with a one out single to left center field setting up a 2-run home run by Brandon Holdren, his second home run of the afternoon. The Rangers continued the rally, loading the bases leading to a Trevor Stiles walk forcing in the ninth run of the game for a 9-4 Ranger lead. Still with the bases loaded Harley Shaffer followed with a 3-RBI double pushing the lead to 12-4 through seven innings.
The Ranger offense continued to put pressure on the Aggies as a Holdren single followed by a Brayden Koenig double play which pushed across the 13th run of the game for the Rangers. With two outs the Rangers kept the rally going as Colby Jarnigan singled followed by a Sachen walk. J. Shaffer hit an RBI single to left field to score Jarnigan. Shaffer stole second, allowing Sachen to score on a wild pitch. The 16th run went across the plate on Stiles reaching on an error, scoring Shaffer.
DeHaas closed out the 16-4 victory following a scoreless eighth inning for the run rule win. THe Rangers will return home for the weekend series on March 31st through April 1st for three games. The series will open on Friday the 31st at 6:00 PM.
