Savage Storm Take Two over Rangers

DURANT, OK.-Lady Rangers fell short to number one ranked team in the conference, the Southeastern Savage Storm. They have been able to uphold their winning streak against our softball team, with the last game won back in 2018. Southeastern took game one 5-0 before winning the second game 6-1.

The first game began with a scoreless inning for both teams; and repeated for the Lady Rangers in the second inning. Only action in the first inning was resulted off a walk, but runner was out at second by Oakley with an attempt to steal.

Bottom of second was eventful for the Savage Storm, getting two runs off of two hits. Leadoff batter hit single back up the middle, and the second  single resulted in the first run of the game. With bases loaded a walk issued from Howell allowed a second run to be scored for Southeastern.

Lady Rangers went three-up three-down in the third inning. One hit was made by the Savage Storm, but Northwestern answered back with a double play made by first baseman Laney Anderson unassisted.

Our first baserunner of the game was made by Abby DeTar after she was hit by a pitch in the top of the fourth inning. However she got caught out at second with two outs already made. Southeastern earned their fourth hit of the game singling to second base, but third baseman Abby Johnson ended their half of the inning quickly catching line drive.

Fifth inning was solid for Southeastern, earning three runs off of three hits. With two on base, a double hit made the score 4-0. They were able to add another run to the scoreboard with another RBI double into left center. Howell pitched her second strikeout of the game after fifth run was scored, and third out was secured by center fielder Macy Spearman.

At the top of the sixth inning, Shakyrah Gladness was walked to first pinch hitting for Oakley. The first hit of the game made for Northwestern was the following pinch hitter Mackenzie Adams, singling through the left side. DeTar answered back with a base hit into right field. Second out was made at the plate with the bases loaded, and Anderson's hit was caught in center field sending them into the final inning scoreless.

After Southeastern failed to get any base runners in the bottom of the sixth, the Rangers had one more chance to bat. Three pinch hitters were used in the seventh inning, notably recognizing the only hit made was by Lindsey McElroy. The first game ended 5-0 for the Savage Storm to take the first win of the series.

GAME TWO:

Leadoff batter Spearman opened the second game with a single up the middle, but the next three at-bats were outs as she was left on base. Ireland Caro started on the mound yet Southeastern was able to complete two hit and earn a run early into the game.

First run was made off a walk while bases were full, but a double play was made following the RBI. Line drive to shortstop Megan Kennedy quickly got the ball to second baseman Avery Clark to secure two outs. Final out was made by Johnson ending the first inning.

Clark reached first on fielder's choice, but no runs were made for Lady Rangers in the second inning. Southeastern earned no hits or runs with three consecutive outs completed by Northwestern.

One out into the third inning Spearman reached first on a walk, but double play resulted in both her and DeTar to be sent back to the dugout for fielding.
