Box Score ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State closed out their three game series against #9 ranked Muleriders. Southern Arkansas took control late in the game after a 1-1 tie through seven innings before opening a 7-1 lead to win the game by that score.
The game started with a pitching duel as Garrett DeHaas had the ball to start the game. The Ranger's starter retired the first two batters in order before a two out double tried to change the scoreless tie but escaped with no harm done. The Rangers went in order in their half of the first inning.
DeHaas retired six straight Muleriders in order to quickly get through the second and third innings. Rangers had a scoring opportunity in the third inning when Trevor Stiles led off with a double followed by a walk to Harley Shaffer, setting up first and second nobody out. However Rangers were unable to score keeping the game scoreless 0-0 through three innings.
McGee started the inning with a single back up the middle. Rangers' defense held the game scoreless for an extra play as on a double by Richardson to left center, Trevor Saire threw out McGee at the plate keeping the game scoreless. After Richardson stole third Lyles single home Richardson for the 1-0 lead.
The teams then traded scoreless innings before the Rangers were able to tie the game in the sixth inning. Barcello reached on error to start the frame before Brandon Holdren tied the game with an RBI double to left center.
Saturday afternoon's game remained tied into the eighth inning when the Muleriders jumped out in front once again. Orr singled to start the inning before McGee walked. Richardson stepped up with an RBI single to right field taking a 2-1 lead. With a runner on third the following hitter Lyles hit a sacrifice fly for a 3-1 lead.
Northwestern had a base runner in their half after a single by Barcello but he was left on first as the game remained 3-1 heading into the ninth and final inning.
The Muleriders extended their lead in the inning as a double, and two walks loaded the bases for McGee. He delivered in a big way with a grand slam to right center field taking a 7-1 lead. In the home half of the ninth the Rangers were able to load the bases trying to fight their way back in the game but Southern Arkansas escaped any damage keeping the game and the win by a final score of 7-1 over the Rangers.
Rangers won the series overall for the weekend and will close out the season with four straight after a midweek Tuesday against Rogers State before closing the season against Southwestern in Alva.
