Northwestern Sweeps Saturday Doubleheader to Take Series Win Over Tigers

ADA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State looked to bounce back after a Friday night loss to start the series. The Rangers did just that with a 4-1 victory in the first game of the doubleheader (second of the series) before winning the series overall with a 6-5 win in game three to sweep the doubleheader.

In game one the Rangers used a three run home run by Hagen Barcello to take the 4-1 lead after the pitching combined for eight scoreless innings after the first inning. In game two the Rangers battled back after allowing four runs in the first inning before winning the game at 6-5 after breaking the 5-5 tie.

GAME ONE: 

Dylan Collins started the game picking up his second victory of the season throwing six inning striking out two batters allowing one run. Cade Phelps closed out the game for his third save of the season. 

Hagen Barcello led the team with three RBIs in the win on a three run home run as five different hitters each had one hit in the game. 

The Rangers were able to jump out early in game one scoring in their first at bat of the game as Bradey Bejarano led the game off with a double before coming around to score on a Trevor Saire sacrifice fly to left field for an early 1-0 lead. 

East Central came back in their half of the inning as a leadoff walk came back to hurt on a Whitaker single later in the inning scored Hunt. 

Both pitchers settled into the game though after the first inning as neither team allowed a hit in the second inning. In the third inning the Tigers had a leadoff single by Hunt. He stole second to get into scoring position with nobody out but Dylan Collins worked around it with three straight ground outs.

Rangers went down in order in the fourth inning all on strikeouts before Collins pitched his third scoreless inning keeping the game at 1-1 through four innings of play. 

Northwestern regained the lead in the fifth inning after Harley Shaffer led the inning of with a walk before Sachen singled to set up first and third for Hagen Barcello. Barcello hit a three run home run to take a 4-1 lead in the fifth inning. Collins followed with a scoreless fifth with one strike out in the inning. 

Both teams went down in order in the sixth inning as Collins struck ou the final batter of the inning and hitter he would face in the game. 

Cade Phelps entered the game in the seventh inning. He would pick up his third save of the season as he threw three innings in the win retiring all nine batter he would face in the game with one strikeout along with five ground outs.

GAME TWO: 

Matthew Potts picked up the victory for the Rangers in this game after throwing in relief pitching 2.2 scoreless innings with three strikeouts before Phelps came in for his second save of the afternoon and fourth on the season. 

Northwestern jumped out early again in game two of the doubleheader as Sachen singled to center field before Barcello hit a double to set up a two RBI single to left center scoring the game's first two runs of the game. Rangers were unable to come up with any more runs in the inning. 

East Central though did not waste any time though, answering back with four runs in their half of the first inning. It started with three straight walks before a throwing error by the Rangers allowed four Tiger runs to score, clearing the bases for a 4-2 Tiger lead after the first inning. 

Much like the Tigers the Rangers wasted no time responding to tie the game in their next half inning at the plate. The inning started with a Colby Grace double to center field before a Bejarano double to left field cut the deficit to one. This setup Sachen to tie the game with an RBI single to center field as Bejarano tied the game, scoring for a 4-4 game. 

Will Kates came in throwing a scoreless inning in the second inning after shutting down the Tigers to end the first inning. Northwestern then scored for the third straight inning to regain the lead. Trevor Saire got hit by a pitch to reach base safely. Colby Jarnagin later came around to score on a Grace RBI single to left center field in the third inning taking a 5-4 lead. 

The Tigers were able to get a hit in the third inning but Kates worked around it holding the Ranger lead at 5-4 through three innings of play. 


East Central came back in the fourth inning when they were able to tie the game after a hit batter and two errors allowed the fifth run to come across in the game as the game was tied at 5-5. Potts closed out the inning holding the Tigers scoreless. 

Northwestern got the run back in the fifth inning as Grace singled to left field before he moved to second on a wild pitch. This set up the game winning hit by Bejarano scoring Grace on an RBI single to take a 6-5 lead in the fifth inning. 

Cade Phelps came in to pitch the seventh inning as he used a line drive double play for the first two outs before striking out the final batter of the game helping the Rangers to the series victory picking up the save for the second time of the day. 

The Rangers will return to action on Tuesday April 11th against East Central as the Rangers play their annual game in Enid, Oklahoma for the Hot Dogs and Apple Pie game.
