Ranger Soccer Ends in Draw Sunday against the Riverhawks

Tahlequah, Oklahoma- Northwestern Soccer traveled to Northeastern State for a Sunday afternoon match that ended in a 0-0 draw between the two programs.

With this result the Rangers are now 1-2-1 on the year following the first draw of the season. Northeastern State moves to 0-1-3 on the year.

Maggie Koster helped seal the Rangers first shutout of the season and her first of the 2023 year. Koster finished the game with six saves.

In the first half neither team did not allow much offense as in total only one shot on goal happened as Maggie Koster was able to make the save. The Rangers finished the first half with three shots in total while allowing seven shots.

The Riverhawks had the first shot attempt at the six minute mark that was missed high. One of the better opportunities for the Rangers in the opening half was on a shot by Isabella Mcmillan which hit the crossbar.

The second half the Rangers picked up a few more chances, having two shots on goal in which both were saved. In the second half Northeastern had the first shot attempt of the half that was blocked before attempting a rebound look that went wide left.

Koster made her first save of the half at the 64 minute mark. Rangers first shot of the second half came at the 80th minute mark on a high shot by Mcmillan. Callie Haneborg had the first shot on goal at the 81st minute that was saved by goalkeeper Rebecca Partyka.

Each team had one final look in the closing minute of the match as the Rangers had a shot by Sydne Edmiston that was saved. About a minute later a foul on Northeastern set up a free kick for the Rangers just missing. The Riverhawks tried to turn this into a scoring opportunity as a shot by Alexis Rodger hit the crossbar.

The match went final with a 0-0 draw for the two teams ending the Rangers five game losing streak to the Riverhawks. 

Northwestern will return to action on Thursday evening with a 6PM kickoff against New Mexico Highlands at Ranger Field.
