Box Score DURANT, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State football traveled to Durant for their second road game of the season. The Rangers fell to Southeastern 41-2 after the Savage Storm scored 35 unanswered points.
The Savage Storm move to 1-3 on the season as the Rangers fall to 0-4.
Northwestern defense came out strong to start the game after Southeastern started with good field position from their own 33. The Rangers allowed one first down before forcing a Storm punt to open the game. After the Rangers did the same punting the ball back the Savage Storm struck with a nine yard rushing touchdown after gaining great field position starting the drive on the Rangers' 15.
With the score 6-0 the Rangers got on the board by blocking the Southeastern extra point attempt by Antoine Martin, which was recovered by Isaiah Kellum who returned to block for 90 yards converting the two points. Northwestern then trailed 6-2. With the Rangers second position the team was able to drive the ball with two first downs on a 30 yard pass to Travis Romar but the drive came to a close after a pass breakup by Southeastern and then a missed field goal for the Rangers as the score held at 6-2 through the first quarter.
The Rangers were forced to punt on their first possession of the second quarter as Southeastern used a six minute drive running nine plays for 58 yards before closing it out with a two yard rushing touchdown taking a 13-2 lead after the point after attempt was successful. Northwestern slowed the drive down for Southeastern with a third down stop on an incomplete pass as Southeastern missed their field goal try.
Halftime remained with the score 13-2 in favor of Southeastern.
In the third quarter Southeastern forced the Rangers into a punt to start the half on the opening possession before capitalizing with a touchdown extending their lead 20-2. The Savage Stormed continued to answer back after a couple more Ranger punts scored two more touchdowns for a 34-2 lead. The home team was able to get one more score before the end of the quarter for a 41-2 lead.
The fourth quarter the two teams traded long drives as the Southeastern first drive was nine plays and the defense forced a turnover on downs. Northwestern followed with an eight play drive before being forced to punt back to the Storm. The final score in Durant was in favor of Southeastern 41-2.
Northwestern will travel to Russellville, Arkansas next week for their fifth game of the season, this one against Arkansas Tech.Â
