BETHANY OKLAHOMA - The Rangers battled the Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm to a 2-2 draw on Saturday evening in their second game of conference play. Carlie Massingale was able to score the equalizer in the second half.
The tie moves Northwestern soccer to 1-3-4 overall on the season and 0-0-2 in conference play.
The Rangers played a solid game, outshooting the Crimson Storm 16-13, including 12 shots on goal in comparison to SNU's 7. The Ranger defense did a solid job containing the high-powered Crimson Storm offense, who leads the GAC in goals and shots on the season.
Southern Nazarene struck first on the evening with a goal by Natalie Montanez off a penalty shot in the 19th minute. At the time, it was Montanez's 5th goal of the season.
The Rangers fought back to even the score at 1-1 with a goal in the 43rd minute. Victoria Ruvalcaba headed the ball in off a lob from Ranger defender Sydne Edminston. The goal gave the Rangers much needed momentum going into the halftime break.Â
The Crimson Storm didn't wait long to respond, scoring in the 46th minute of the game to start the 2nd half. The goal was once again scored by Natalie Montanez, moving her goal total to 6 on the season. The goal was assisted by Mallory Bennett.
Carlie Massingale evened the score at 2-2 for the Rangers, scoring an excellent goal from outside the box for the Rangers in the 64th minute. The goal capped off a great game by Massingale and was her 2nd on the season.Â
The game ended tied 2-2 after the Rangers could not capitalize on one final shot on goal which was saved by the Southern Nazarene goalkeeper.
After the tie Saturday evening, the Rangers stand in a tie for 3rd in the GAC standings. They hit the road again this week, traveling to play Ouachita Baptist on Wednesday, before returning to Alva to host Harding next Saturday.
