Box Score RUSSELLVILLE, ARKANSAS - Northwestern was on the road for their second straight game this time in Arkansas against Arkansas Tech. The Wonder Boys were the first on the board taking a 21-0 lead before closing out the win.
The win moves Arkansas Tech to 1-4 on the season while the Rangers drop to 0-5 on the year.
Northwestern opened the game with the ball by starting to move down the field following a Jashaun Foster 31 yard run down into Arkansas Tech territory. However the Wonder Boy defense forced a turnover off a fumble and recovered the ball. The Ranger defense answers the stop by forcing a three and out for a punt. Arkansas Tech took over the ball on the Ranger 30-yard line before moving down the field for the first points of the game. A 28 yard touchdown pass from Gatewood to Smith put the home team in front 7-0. Northwestern again started moving down the field following a couple big plays of Darian Gill for 13 yard run and Gabe Sonnier with a 14 yard run but turnover downs gave the ball back to Arkansas Tech. The Wonder Boys took advantage with a 33-yard touchdown pass this time to Cousins from Gatewood for a 14-0 lead.
In the second quarter as the Rangers were looking to complete another well drawn out drive it was stopped by a big defensive play from Arkansas Tech this time an interception. The Wonder Boys closed off this turnover with a 20 yard touchdown pass taking a 21-0 lead. Northwestern would stop the Wonder Boy's 21 unanswered points to start the game off a big play from Grant McCook throwing a 25 yard pass to Torrence Stevens setting up a four yard rushing touchdown by Jashaun Foster. Northwestern cut the deficit to 21-7. The Wonder Boys however answered the Ranger touchdown with one of their own with a 61 yard passing touchdown but the extra point was wide. With the Rangers down 27-7 Arkansas Tech hit a last second field goal in the second quarter to send the game into halftime with the home team leading 30-7.
Arkansas Tech starts with the ball running a 13 play drive to open the half and concludes it by adding a touchdown, this one a eight yard rush by Jordan Edington extending their lead to 37-7. The defenses closed out the third quarter with no more points allowed as it was 37-7 after three quarters.
Rangers forced a punt to open the fourth quarter helping lead the Rangers to their first score of the second half. Northwestern took over at their own nine yard line. Following a 37 yard pass from Caleb Deal down to Torrence Stevens put the ball on the 50 yard line setting up a long drive. Two 11 yard plays first a rush from Deal followed by Foster set up the final play. Foster rushed up the middle for a 19 yard run for his second touchdown of the evening, capping off a 91 yard drive. Arkansas Tech answered right back with a five play drive, the longest play being a 42 yard run setting up the five yard touchdown pass. However Caleb Deal, after leading the Rangers to a touchdown on the previous drive, did so again. The drive was set up from a 38 yard kick return from Julian Jackson with over a hundred return yards. A 19 yard pass from Deal to Romar set up the 18 yard touchdown run.
The Rangers fell 44-21 in the game. Northwestern's next game will be homecoming against Harding University.
