ALVA, OKLAHOMA - The Ranger Volleyball team hosted Southwestern Oklahoma State Tuesday evening at Percefull Fieldhouse in a conference match-up. Southwestern snapped the Rangers six game win streak coming back from down 2-0 to steal the match 3-2 over the Rangers.
Northwestern falls to 9-6 (3-1 GAC) on the season as Southwestern improves to 6-6 (2-1 GAC) for the year.
The Rangers were led by Erika Asencio Soriano in Kills with 14 followed by Macy Shreffler with 10. Hennesys Lalane had 30 assists in the match, as Brianda Diaz and Erika Asencio Soriano tied with 17 digs.
SET ONE:
Southwestern Oklahoma State opened the match with the first point on a kill by Hailey Smith before the opening set had five ties to bring the set to a 5-5 even score. A block by Ivanny Blackwood and Erika Asencio Soriano had the Rangers in front for the first time. This sparked a 7-1 scoring run that included two kills by Ivanny Blackwood and a couple of Bulldog errors as the Rangers led 11-6. Northwestern continued to maintain the lead building a five point lead after a Ece Ozdemir service ace at 17-12. Southwestern was able to grab four straight points following a 19-14 Ranger lead to get as close as 19-18 but the Rangers had a massive kill by Asencio Soriano to stay in front. Northwestern continued to lead the whole way, closing out a 25-23 opening set victory.
SET TWO:
Southwestern looking to even the match, opened set two with a 5-1 lead over the Rangers. With the Rangers trailing 6-2, Ece Ozdemir finished the kill before serving three straight to even the set at 6-6. A strong kill by Ivanny Blackwood through the Bulldogs defense pushed the Rangers out in front at 10-9. The set was tied twice more at 12-12 and 14-14. Rangers pushed across three straight points led by Ece Ozdemir with a service ace followed by a kill from Erika Ascencio Soriano. Southwestern Oklahoma State answered with three straight points tying the set at 17-17. The Rangers had four of the next five points striking a 21-18 lead. Kills from Macy Shreffler, Ivanny Blackwood sealed the 25-22 set victory over the Bulldogs for a 2-0 match lead.
SET THREE:
Southwestern looking to extend the match had back to back kills to open the set for a 2-0 lead. A block by Ozdemir and Jimenez pushed the Rangers to a 2-2 tie. Southwestern Oklahoma State went on a run after a 4-4 tie to score four of the next five points to take a 9-5 lead over the Rangers. Their lead continued to grow pushing the lead to 16-7 following a 7-0 run before a kill from Asencio Soriano stopped the run and gave the Rangers three straight. Southwestern then answered though to score the final eight points of the set taking a 25-11 lead over the Rangers and cutting the match lead to 2-1.
SET FOUR:
Southwestern Oklahoma State carried the win in set three into the fourth start on a 7-0 run taking a 7-0 lead. A kill by Ozdemir put the Rangers on the board before a 6-0 run had the Rangers back within one at 8-7 following a block by Ozemir and Mariela Jimenez. The teams traded runs as Southwestern still held a 13-11 lead and a 16-14 two point lead before a 7-0 run opened a 22-14 lead over the Rangers. The Bulldogs closed out a 25-18 set victory over the Rangers to even the match at 2-2.
SET FIVE:
Heading into the fifth and final set the Rangers looking to extend the win streak got off to a slow start as the Bulldogs went up 3-0. The Rangers answered back with two points following a service ace by Brianda Diaz. As the Rangers trailed 6-4, Southwestern used their largest run of the set scoring four straight to take a 10-4 lead over the Rangers before closing out a 15-8 set victory leading to the 3-2 match win.
