Rangers Tie Bulldogs For Second Time this Season

WEATHERFORD, OKLAHOMA - The Ranger Soccer team traveled to Weatherford on Wednesday afternoon for a conference match against Southwestern Oklahoma State. The Rangers played to a 0-0 draw with each team finishing with four shots on goal.

The Rangers are now 2-8-6 overall on the season with a 0-5-5 conference record while Southwestern is now 5-7-4 with a 3-4-3 conference record.

Northwestern had 11 total shots in the match as Christi-Anne Mills, Isabella Mcmillan and Tira Campbell each had two shots. Southwestern finished with 12 shots and like the Rangers had four on goal.

Southwestern tried to strike first in the matchup as Aspen Cope was the first one to get a shot on goal and Rachel Brown was there to make the save, as before their second shot on goal of the half. The Bulldogs would add a third shot on goal of the half in the opening 10 minutes of the match.

Lily Anderson and Jordan Fawcett were the first two shots by the Rangers but were unable to score. The Rangers defense took over after those first 10 minutes only allowing one more shot goal the rest of the afternoon.

Lauren Gauthier had the Rangers first shot on goal but was saved by Allie Vasquez. Christi-Anne Mills had a shot on goal to the boom after a corner kick but neither could produce a goal as the Southwestern defense stood strong.

The Rangers and Bulldogs were tied 0-0 through the first half.

Southwestern had a strong chance in the opening minutes of the second half as Savanna Clark had one hit the top post, followed by two more shots off target.

Mcmillan had a shot at the 53:38 mark leading to a Ranger corner kick but an offside call gave possessions back to the Bulldogs. Southwestern had one shot on goal in the second half coming in at the 73:18 minute mark as Rachel Brown turned away a shot by Aspen Cope.

The Rangers had a couple of scoring opportunities late in the match off a corner kick but Southwestern's defense was able to clear the ball. Reese Welch had a shot before Campell had two shots in the 84th minute but Southwestern's goalkeeper was able to block the ball.

The match ended in a 0-0 draw as the two teams finished with two ties in the season series in the 2024 season.

Northwestern Oklahoma State Soccer will close the road schedule on Saturday evening against Southern Nazarene, before one final home game against Ouachita Baptist on Monday afternoon at 3:00 PM.
