Softball Drops Two Games in Doubleheader to Close Out Series with the Bison

SHAWNEE, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State closed out the three game series with Oklahoma Baptist Saturday afternoon as the Bison took game one by a final 7-0 and game two 9-1. In the second game the Rangers had a first inning run but the Bison answered back.

The two losses this afternoon dropped the Rangers to 8-8 on the season with a 2-4 Great American Conference record overall.

GAME ONE:
Northwestern tried to strike first in the opening game of the doubleheader with a lead-off single by Spearman she advanced to second in the inning but was left on base. In the battle of the two pitchers to start this game the first game remained 0-0 heading into the third inning.

After the Rangers had a hit from Tatum Winters she could not come around to score in the inning as it went to the home half of the third inning still 0-0. The Bison's offense struck in the third inning after two singles to start the inning led to a third single and a 1-0 Bison lead. This single was followed by a 2-RBI double by Clark down the right field line for a 3-0 Bison lead. 

The inning continued after an RBI fielder's choice led to an RBI single by Greene for a 5-0 Bison lead and a five run third inning. 

Rachel Sherwood tried to help get one back in the fourth inning with a lead off double but she was left on second as the Bison held their 5-0 lead.

The score stayed 5-0 into the sixth inning when the Bison scored two more for a 7-0 lead over the Rangers. A walk loaded the bases before a Ryan single drove in one run followed by a Stanford RBI ground out for the 7-0 lead. 

Northwestern fell in the second game of the series to Oklahoma Baptist 7-0 as the Bison sealed the series victory heading into the final game three. 

GAME TWO: 

The Rangers looked to score first again in game two as Rachel Sherwood kept the inning alive with a two out double to start things for the Rangers. Hannah Howell then put the Rangers on the board with an RBI single scoring Sherwood for the early 1-0 lead. 

The Oklahoma Baptist offense struck in the bottom half of the inning as a lead off single followed by a Ranger error had first and third. Both base runners came around to score on a three run home run by Max to put the Bison in front 3-1. 

In the second inning for the Rangers Northwestern looked to answer back as a hit batter followed by a Denney single had first and second but a fly out and a line out ended the inning with the score still 3-1. 

The home team struck for two more in the second inning on an RBI double by Greene extended it to 4-1 at the time before an Adler RBI single brought the score to 5-1 after two innings of play. 

Northwestern added two more base runners in the fourth inning on a walk followed by a Beth Denney single, her second off the game but a strikeout ended the fourth inning with the Rangers still trailing 5-1. 


The score remained 5-1 into the home half of the fifth inning when the Bison extended the lead. After a single hit batter, and a second singled loaded the bases with nobody out. A hit batter forced in run number six before a Greene 2-RBI double sent in two more runs for an 8-1 lead. The final run of the game scored on a sacrifice fly to center field for a 9-1 Bison lead. 


Oklahoma Baptist completed the series sweep over the Rangers following the two wins on Saturday afternoon. Northwestern will be back in action with two games in Wichita, Kansas on Tuesday March 5th against Newman University.
