ALVA,OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State Baseball had a doubleheader to open a three game series Friday afternoon. The Weevils took both games Friday to open the three game series winning game one 17-8 before taking the second game 15-13 against the Rangers.
GAME ONE:
Arkansas Monticello struck first with a 2-run blast to left field for the early 2-0 lead on a home run by Poppy.
The score stayed 2-0 into the third inning when the Rangers loaded the bases with back to back singles and a walk before Chad Green delivered a 2-run single into left field to tie the game at 2-2. Hagen Barcello then followed with a 3-run home run to left center field giving the Rangers a 5-2 lead. Saire singled to keep the inning alive, setting up a 2-run blast from Colby Grace for a seven run inning all with two outs.
In the top of the fourth inning a one out double set up a two run home run by Garrett to cut the Rangers lead to 7-4.
The score remained 7-4 into the sixth inning when the Weevils scored three runs to tie the game at seven. Started with Poppy scoring on a passed ball before Garrett hit his second home run of the game this time to tie the game.
Arkansas Monticello then regained the lead in the seventh inning after a double by Tanner led to an RBI single by Cancilla.
The Rangers though quickly tied the game in the seventh inning after a double and a walk led to an RBI groundout by Barcello for an 8-8 game through seven innings. Arkansas Monticello then struck for a seven run eighth inning to take a 15-8 lead over the Rangers. Started by a two-RBI single for a 10-8 lead before a double scored two more runs then leading to a 2-run home run for the 15-8 lead.
The lead was extended once more after Garrett hit his third home run of the game, this time a 2-run shot for a 17-8 lead over the Rangers. Arkansas Monticello closed out the game with one win taking the series opener.
GAME TWO:Â
Arkansas Monticello struck first in game two with a first inning run followed by a three in the second inning for an early 4-0 lead through their half of the second. However the Rangers were ready to strike back in the bottom of the second inning.
The Rangers first run came on a Hagen Barcello solo home run to left field as the Rangers cut the deficit down to 4-1. Three batters later the Rangers loaded the bases after a walk and two singles leading to a Bradord RBI single. After a pass ball and a walk reloaded the bases with the Rangers trailing 4-3, Paul Sachen delivered the big blast with a grand slam to left field giving the Rangers a 7-4 lead.
Northwestern extended their lead in the third inning after a scoreless top of the inning as Barcello led off with a single before a two run home run for Trevor Saire made it a 9-4 game. Colby Grace went back to back with Saire as the Rangers were in front 10-4 after three innings.
Arkansas Monticello started their comeback though with a seven run fourth inning started by a two RBI single leading to a three run home run as the Rangers lead was cut to 10-9. However two batters later the Weevils took the lead on a 2-run home run for an 11-10 lead over the Rangers.
The Rangers though struck right back as a single and a walk to start the inning lead to a Hagen Barcello three run home run, his second home run of the game to give the Rangers a 13-11 lead after four innings of play.
Northwestern kept the two run lead into the seventh inning as a walk set up the tying run as Cancilla hit a two run home run to tie the game at 13-13.
The game went into extra innings before the second game of the series found a winner as a solo home run to center field gave the Weevils a 14-13 lead. After two walks the Weevils scored their second run on an error for the 15-13 lead.
Northwestern sent the tying run to the plate after a one out single but back to back strikeouts sealed the win for Arkansas Monticello 15-13 giving them the series win.Â
The series concludes on Saturday with a scheduled first pitch of Noon for senior day. The senior day activities will begin at 11:30.Â
