ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State Soccer hosted Southwestern College Wednesday evening. The Rangers used a pair of second half goals to earn the first win of the season and the second shutout of the year by Rachel Brown.
Northwestern improves to 1-1-1 on the season following the Wednesday victory in the second of seven straight home games.
The Rangers controlled the game from the start as the Rangers out shot Southwestern 19-3 overall capitalizing on the two goals. Northwestern led in shots by Luana San Miguel with four and Isabella Mcmillan with three. The goals were scored by Luana San Miguel and Victoria Ruvalcaba.
The opening half Northwestern started aggressively, having three shots in the opening minutes of the game followed by three shots on goal in the first 20 minutes but were unable to strike the back of net after Hayden Clark the Southwestern goalkeeper, kept the game scoreless.
Wednesday's game stayed scoreless heading into halftime 0-0 as the Rangers out shot the visitors 9-0.
Northwestern broke the scoreless tie in the 66th minute of the game as Luana San Miguel found the back of the net with a goal off a corner kick to take a 1-0 lead over Southwestern.
The Rangers continued to keep the offensive pressure throughout the half as the Rangers had a few scoring opportunities late in the second half as Amaia Stephens and Luana San Miguel had a shot of a free kick.
It was in the 85th minute when the Rangers offense struck again with a goal from Victoria Ruvalcaba and a Rangers 2-0 lead.
Northwestern closed out the victory over Southwestern College 2-0 as Rachel Brown finished her second shutout of the season and seventh overall of her career.
Northwestern will be home on Sunday afternoon against Northeastern State September 15th with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 PM.
