Ranger Soccer Strong Second Half Leads to Comeback Win over Newman

ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State Women's Soccer hosted Newman University Wednesday evening, as the Rangers comeback to win behind two second half goals to seal a 2-1 victory in the non-conference match-up. 

The Rangers improve to 2-2-1 on the season as Newman drops to 0-4-1 on the year. Overall the Rangers now even the head to head match-up 4-4 since 2015. 

Northwestern led by Jenna Mills and Lily Anderson scoring the two goals for the Rangers, each the first goal of the season. Anderson now has three points with a goal and an assist. Brown finished with eight saves on the evening.

Northwestern, looking to strike early, had a shot off target before a shot by Luana San Miguel was saved by Carla Apodaca, the Newman goalkeeper. The Jets countered with a shot to the bottom left by Rachel Brown kept the game scoreless. The Jets looking to get the match's first goal had three shots off of corner kicks in two minutes but Brown denied every attempt. Brown then at the 33rd minute made a diving save off a Newman free kick keeping the Rangers tied at zero. 

The Jets were able to strike through in the 34th minute on a goal by Natalia Gonzalez to take a 1-0 lead in the opening half. Northwestern's offense looking to strike late in the half had two shots on goal by Lily Anderson and Emerson Curd but Carla Apodaca the Newman goalkeeper kept the game 1-0. 

Newman led 1-0 over the Rangers at halftime. 

Northwestern's offense came out very aggressive in the second half as the Rangers had two corner kicks and three shots in the opening five minutes of the half but did not find the back of the net. It was in the 68th minute when the Rangers struck. 

Tiara Campbell was able to lead Jenna Mills as Mills fired a shot off for the equalizer and her first goal of the season as the Rangers evened the score 1-1 off Mills' goal assisted by Campbell. Northwestern kept the pressure on the Jets had two shots and a corner kick but Emma Lintecum was able to keep the game tied. 

The 80th minute off a Newman foul, Lily Anderson capitalized on a free kick opportunity with a goal through the Newman defense for the 2-1 lead, breaking the even score for the game winner. 

Northwestern closed out the 2-1 win over the Jets, Wednesday evening. The Rangers will be home on Saturday afternoon against Fort Hays State with a 2:00 PM kickoff.
