Northwestern Falls in Conference Opener 2-0

ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State Women's Soccer opened the Great American Conference schedule on Wednesday evening. Southern Nazarene won the game behind two second half goals against the Rangers for the 2-0 loss.

Southern Nazarene improves to 3-2-1 on the season, 1-0 in GAC play as the Rangers fall to 2-4-1 on the year with a 0-1 conference mark. 

The Rangers led in shots by Victoria Ruvalcaba with five getting one on goal as Tanah Huffines and Isabella Mcmillan each had two on goal. Rachel Brown finished the game with 13 saves on 15 chances. 

Southern Nazarene came out aggressive with five quick shots with four on goal being saved by Rachel Brown keeping the game scoreless in the early part of the game. Huffines countered with an opportunity with a shot on goal but that one was saved by Gianna Bonnett to keep the game 0-0. 

The Rangers off a corner kick had a shot by Huffines but were not able to find the back of the net. Southern Nazarene had an opportunity with three straight shots saved by Rachel Brown keeping the game scoreless.

Tonight's game remained scoreless into the halftime break as the game remained tied. 

To start the second half Victoria Ruvalcaba had a shot on goal saved by Gianna Bonnett before Tannah Huffines had one on goal. The Crimson Storm broke the tie at the 53:33 mark on a goal from Karla Ramirez for 1-0 lead early in the second half. 

Rangers looking for the equalizer off a corner kick had a shot on goal from Isabella Mcmillan saved by Southern Nazarene followed by a shot from Jordan Fawcett. Southern Nazarene extended their lead in the 80:26 mark as Brenda Castro found the back of the net for the 2-0 lead. 

Lily Anderson put a shot on net before a Ranger corner kick led to two more shots for the Rangers but both saved. 

Southern Nazarene held on for the 2-0 victory over the Rangers on Wednesday evening. 

Northwestern will be back in action on Saturday against Oklahoma Baptist to continue conference play at home. Start time scheduled for Noon.
