Rangers Drop Home Opener to Pittsburg State

ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State had the home opener on Sunday afternoon against Pittsburg State. The Gorillas had a first half goal on the Rangers before closing out a 3-0 victory over the Rangers.

Pittsburg State moves to 2-0 on the season while the Rangers drop to 0-1-1 on the year.

Emily Jantz finishes with 11 saves on the afternoon in goal for the Rangers. Northwestern finished with 11 shots on goal and 13 overall as Victoria Ruvalcaba and Isabella Mcmillan led with two shots each. 

Mcmillan gave the Rangers the first scoring opportunity, getting a shot on goal but Sabrian Schilt the Gorilla's goalkeeper made the save keeping the score 0-0. 

Northwestern had an opportunity 10 minutes in following multiple corner kicks but Pittsburg State defense prevailed keeping the game scoreless. 

It was the 37th minute when the visiting team offense capitalized on a scoring opportunity. Pittsburg State had a breakaway with two original shots both saved by Emily Jantz before one hit the crossbar before Sophia See had the rebound off the post finding the back of the net for the 1-0 lead late in the opening half. 

The score remained 1-0 into halftime in favor of Pittsburg State. 

Seven minutes into the second half Pittsburg State found the back of the net again by Sophia See as the Gorillas took a 2-0 advantage over the Rangers. 

Following Pittsburg State's goal the Rangers had an opportunity to answer but a goalkeeper save and a shot that went high kept Pittsburg State in front 2-0. 

In the 70th minute the Rangers had three shots on goal in 25 seconds but were unable to find the back of the net. 

Pittsburg State had the final goal of the game in the 85th minute on a shot to the lower left side as the Gorillas won the game over Northwestern 3-0. 

The Rangers will be on the road Wednesday evening against Southwestern College in Kansas. The game is in Winfield, Kansas with kickoff set for 7:00 PM.
