ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State hosted the Southern Arkansas Muleriders for a 2:00 pm contest at Ranger Field. The Rangers would drop a hard fought contest 42-16 to the Muleriders.

Northwestern started the scoring with a 9 play 55 yard drive that included a 41 yard pass from Freshman Quarterback Jax Bernard, and ended in a 35 yard field goal off the foot of kicker Kale Purvis. Southern Arkansas put together a 9 play scoring drive of their own to take a 7-3 lead late in the second quarter after a 3 yard touchdown run from running back Hezekiah Harris.

The Rangers took advantage of a Mulerider muffed punt and great field position, coming away with 7 points after an Eziquel Luna 12 yard touchdown run with forty five seconds left in the first half. The ensuing kickoff gave Southern Arkansas the ball on Northwestern's side of the field and the Muleriders were able to score quickly before the half ended on a 23 yard touchdown pass to Kendall Williams from Hezekiah Harris to put Southern Arkansas up 14-10 going into the halftime locker room.Â

The Muleriders opened the scoring in the second half capping a 9 play drive with a 1 yard touchdown run by Adam Parker padding their lead by 11 bringing the score to 21-10. After forcing a Northwestern punt Southern Arkansas would once again find the endzone to extend their lead to 28-10 late in the third quarter. The Rangers were able to cut into the Mulerider lead with Luna's second rush touchdown of the game bringing the deficit to 28-16. It didn't take long for Southern Arkansas to find the endzone again taking just fifty-nine seconds off the clock, as Harris scampered 59 yards for his second rushing touchdown of the game extending their lead to 35-16.Â

The Rangers found themselves in the red zone late in the game but could not turn it into points.

Northwestern will be in action again next Saturday, October 11th as they head to Arkadelphia, Arkansas to take on Henderson State University at 1:00 p.m.
