ARKADELPHIA, ARK. - The Northwestern Oklahoma State football team could not overcome three first quarter scores by Ouachita Baptist, as they fell 55-14.
Ouachita opened the scoring early with a 64-yard touchdown pass, and followed that up six minutes later after a Northwestern drive ended with an interception in the red zone with a 53-yard touchdown run to go up 14-0 midway through the first quarter. They would add six more on the scoreboard with an 82-yard touchdown run in the final minute of the first quarter.
After a pass interference call set Ouachita up in the red zone, the Tigers were able to find the endzone once again. This time in the form of a 15-yard touchdown run increasing their lead to 28-0 over Northwestern. Ouachita added another touchdown with 11:20 left in the first half by way of a 38-yard touchdown pass. The Ranger offense found most of their success in the half through the air totaling 103 yards passing. Northwestern added a touchdown with 2:39 left in the first half on an Ezequiel Luna rushing touchdown, cutting the Tiger lead t0 35-7.
The Rangers continued to put up a fight on both ends of the ball in the second half. Defensively, Northwestern held tough giving up just two second half touchdowns to the Tigers and came away with a takeaway in the form of an interception by Cason Olson. Offensively, Northwestern was able to put a touchdown on the board with a Caleb Deal 16 yard touchdown pass into the arms of Merric Judd.
Deal led Northwestern on offense with 208 total yards. Luna led all rushers with 50 yards and Judd led the Ranger receiving core with 60 yards on nine targets.
The Rangers will be back in Alva next week, as they host Arkansas-Monticello on November 8th for a 2 p.m. kick off.
