Rangers Fall to Grizzlies in Non-Conference Action

ALAMOSA, Colo. - The Northwestern Oklahoma State men's basketball team could not overcome an early deficit and fall to Adams State 99-86 despite a 20-point effort from Max Alexander

Adams State got out to a quick start jumping out to a 13-5 lead in the first minutes of action. The Rangers would answer back with a 9-4 run to cut the Grizzly lead to 17-14 at the second media time out. Northwestern would tie the game at 23-23 right before the third media timeout on a Max Alexander layup. Adams State regained the lead with a 7-0 run coming out of the third media timeout and went up by as many as 11 at 36-25 with just under five minutes in the half. The Rangers battled back to get the score to within six at 33-39 with a minute left, but Adams State answered with three unanswered baskets to take a 46-33 lead into the half time break.

The Rangers came out of the halftime locker room with momentum cutting the lead to two points at 57-59 early in period number two. The Grizzlies were able to keep the Rangers at bay, despite Northwestern knocking the lead down to just two midway through the second half. The Rangers found themselves down by five midway through the half, but battled back to within two at 73-75 with just under eight minutes left in the game. Adams State used a 8-2 run to extend the lead to 83-75 with five and a half minutes left. Northwestern continued to fight until the final seconds ticked off the clock but could not overcome the deficit and fall to Adams State 

Alexander led Northwestern offensively with 24 points followed by Kenny Burns III who added 14 of his own. Keyondre Young recorded a double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds on the night. 

Northwestern will be back in action on Saturday, November 22nd at 1 p.m. as they host Eastern New Mexico University inside Percefull Fieldhouse.
