ALVA, Okla. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State women's soccer team clinched a spot in the Great American Conference tournament with a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon.
The tie moves Northwestern to 10-5-3 on the season, putting the Rangers in fourth place in the GAC standings to end the regular season.
The Rangers and Crimson Storm battled for momentum in the first half, as both teams produced multiple scoring opportunities despite a stiff north wind that produced gusts of 40 mph. The Crimson Storm started the game with the wind at their back, and struck first in the 30th minute to go up 1-0. The Rangers quickly moved down the pitch, but could not find an equalizer in the first half.
As the teams switched sides, so did the momentum, as the Rangers now had the wind at their side. The Rangers upped their pressure in the second half, as they fired off eight shots compared to their six in the first half. It didn't take long for the Rangers to find the back of the net, as
Jordan Fawcett scored not only her first goal of the season, but her first goal as a Ranger.
The Rangers held strong on the defensive end as well, as
Taylor Annen recorded 10 saves to keep the game at a 1-1 tie.
Both
Christi-Anne Mills and
Luana San Miguel led the Rangers in shots with 4 each, with three of San Miguel's shots being shots on goal. Fawcett had three shots, with
Emerson Curd and
Jazelle Alvarado each getting one shot.
The Rangers will be back in action on Nov. 14, as they travel to Searcy, Arkansas to take on Harding in the first appearance at the GAC tournament for the Rangers since 2022.
