ALVA, Okla. - The No. 19 Northwestern Oklahoma State women's basketball team extended its winning streak with a 67-55 victory over Southern Nazarene, led by
Kira Bass' 28-point, 11-rebound performance. The victory moves the Lady Rangers to 10-1 on the season, and 5-0 in Great American Conference play.
It wasn't long before Northwestern got things going, getting out to a 12-4 lead just four minutes into the opening quarter. The next few minutes of the quarter turned into a defensive battle, as neither side gave up any baskets. The Lady Rangers managed to break through and push the lead to 12 at 18-6 at the 2 minute mark of the quarter behind two threes from
Catyn Graham and Bass feasting in the paint.
Northwestern picked up where they left off to start the second quarter, maintaining their double digit lead. Southern Nazarene got it down to eight at 30-22 before the media time out, but the Lady Rangers went on a 9-0 run late in the quarter to push their lead to 39-22. Bass hit a big jumper with one second left to end the half with 20 points and send Northwestern into the locker room ahead 41-25.
Northwestern led by their largest margin of 17 at 45-28 with just under seven minutes to play in the third period. The Lady Rangers kept their foot on the gas and pushed their lead to 20 over the Crimson Storm to lead 51-21 at the media timeout.Â
Southern Nazarene picked things up in the fourth quarter, but Northwestern was able to weather the storm to lead by 16 at the media stoppage. The Lady Rangers closed the game out with free throws from Bass,
Summya Adigun, and Graham to give Northwestern its eighth straight win, 67-55.
Bass led the Lady Rangers in scoring and rebounds with 28 points and 11 boards, while both Adigun and Graham led in assists with four each. Bass and Graham contributed on the defensive side with three steals apiece. Northwestern finished the game by shooting 54 percent from the floor and 50 percent from beyond the arc.
The Lady Rangers will be in action again on Jan. 3rd, when they make their way to Shawnee, Oklahoma to battle Oklahoma Baptist at 5:30 p.m.
