SHAWNEE, Okla. - The No. 15 Northwestern Oklahoma State women's basketball team defeated Oklahoma Baptist, 76-49, on Saturday night to get their first win in Shawnee since 2021.
The victory moves the Lady Rangers to 11-1 on the season and 6-0 in Great American Conference play. The win is also the ninth straight for the Lady Rangers, making it the longest winning streak since the 2001-02 season.
The Lady Rangers and Bison battled for momentum early in the game, as Oklahoma Baptist held a 5-4 lead midway through the first quarter before Northwestern went on an 11-2 run powered by a
Kennedy Hight three-pointer and four points from
Kira Bass to give the Lady Rangers a seven-point lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Northwestern lead continued to expand in the second quarter, as
Camille Pritchard and
Conley Cayot knocked down shots to keep the Bison at bay. Pritchard, Bass, and
Madison Denison all prospered in the paint during an 8-0 run late in the quarter to give Northwestern a 34-22 advantage at the half.
Jaida Shipp dominated the first three minutes of the second half by making three of her first four shots to push the Northwestern lead to 16, but the Bison defense tightened up as Oklahoma Baptist cut the deficit to 11 with 4:13 to play in the third quarter. The Lady Rangers responded with back-to-back threes from
Catyn Graham and
Conley Cayot to start a 14-2 run to end the quarter with Northwestern up by 23.
Graham knocked down another trey to start the fourth quarter, while Bass controlled the paint with three consecutive baskets to give the Lady Rangers a 65-33 lead with 6:42 remaining in the game. Hight made two more threes in the closing minutes to help secure a 76-49 win.
Bass led the Lady Rangers in scoring and rebounds with 22 points and 12 boards for her fourth double-double of the season, while
Summya Adigun led in assists with six.
The Lady Rangers will be back in action on Jan. 8th, when they take on Ouachita Baptist University at 5:30 p.m. inside Percefull Fieldhouse.
