Rangers Bats Explode for 38 Runs in the Two Game Doubleheader Sweep

LAS VEGAS, NEW MEXICO - Northwestern Oklahoma State swept the doubleheader on Saturday afternoon after two big offensive games. In the opening game of the afternoon the Rangers used a 12 run fifth inning to open a big lead before closing out the 21-4 victory. In game two after trailing by one the Rangers scored 17 unanswered runs to win a 17-3 game. 
 

Northwestern now improves to 7-1 on the season and sealing the series victory this weekend. 
 

GAME ONE:

In the opening game of the afternoon the Rangers offense struck first as a lead off double by Dylan Bradford led to a two run home run for the early 2-0 lead over the Cowboys. However, New Mexico Highlands were able to answer back in the home half of the inning as an error and a walk setup an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to even the score at 2-2 to close out the inning. 
 

The Rangers had two runners reach in the second inning but were unable to score as the two runners were left stranded. After a lead off walk the Rangers worked around the lead off runner advancing to scoring position to keep the game 2-2. 
 

The third inning the Rangers regained the lead on an RBI single by Chad Green scoring Carson Wright for the 3-2 lead before a double play ended the rally and the inning. The Cowboys, like in the first inning, answered back this time with a two-run home run to take their first lead of the game at 4-3. 
 

This game remained 4-3 in favor of the Cowboys before the Rangers broke it open with a 12-run inning. The inning started like the opening inning with a Bradford hit followed by a Wright home run giving the Rangers the lead back. Northwestern then had an RBI single by Colby Grace scoring Hagen Barcello before loading the bases. Northwestern scored three runs on a passed ball then a walk, followed by a hit by pitch. 
 

This led to a bases-clearing double for Hagen Barcello for a 3-RBI hit. Connor and Chad Green combined for 3-RBI the next two batters as Connor hit an RBI single before a Chad Green two-run home run for the 15-4 lead. 
 

Barcello continued a strong opening game in the sixth inning when he hit a 2-RBI triple, scoring Bradford, and Shaffer for the 17-4 lead. Connor Green had hit in the third run of the inning on a single. 
 

In the seventh inning, the Rangers scored three more runs as a Colby Jarnagin sacrifice fly scored Gavin Mendoza. Later in the inning Jason McCarty and David Cronister came around to score, giving the Rangers the 21-4 lead. 
 

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Rangers finished off the game with a 1-2-3 inning to seal the victory over New Mexico Highlands in the opening game of the day. 
 

GAME TWO:
 

The second game of the afternoon the Rangers looked to continue the momentum from the opening game with two hits in the first inning but were not able to score keeping the game 0-0. 
 

It stayed 0-0 into the bottom of the third inning when Callanan hit a solo home run for the 1-0 lead over the Rangers. 

Rangers did not trail for long before the offense struck back in the top of the fourth inning with three hits and four runs scored. Porter Pittman drove in the Rangers' first two runs with a 2-RBI double as Shaffer and Grace scored for the 2-1 lead before Chase Gordon delivered a two-run home run for the 4-1 lead. 
 

New Mexico Highlands had two hits in the home half of the inning but Jacob Wiltshire worked around the inning keeping the game at 4-1. 
 

Northwestern extended the lead in the fifth inning with five runs on five hits. After two straight singles led to a Chad Green RBI double. A hitter later Colby Grace had a 2-RBI single as the Rangers led 7-1. Pittman closed out the rally with a two-run blast scoring Grace as the Rangers carried an eight-run lead into the bottom of the fifth inning. 
 

The Rangers led 10-1 in the sixth before Carson Wright drove in three runs with a hit as the Rangers led 13-1. The Rangers added four more runs on two RBI singles before a fielder's choice and a ground-out had the Rangers in front 17-1.
 

New Mexico Highlands scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on an RBI and an RBI double but a fly out to right field ended the game as the Rangers won 17-3. 
 

In total the two games the Rangers scored 38 runs and allowed seven in the wins. 
 

Northwestern closes out the four game series on Sunday afternoon with the first pitch scheduled for 1:00 PM CT against the Cowboys.
