MAGNOLIA, ARKANSAS - The Ranger Softball team closed out the three game set with Southern Arkansas. The Muleriders scored in the opening two innings of the game to take an early 4-0 lead that the home team never lost,closing out the win 4-0 completing the sweep over the Rangers.
Northwestern falls to 6-16 overall with a 3-11 conference record while Southern Arkansas improves to 23-5 and a 13-1 conference record.
Rachel Sherwood reached base all three times picking up two hits in the game while drawing a walk. Kaitlyn Corn reached twice on two walks for the Rangers.
In the circle Madelyn Cason started the game before Chloe Brown pitched the final 4 ? innings striking out two allowing zero runs.Â
The first inning Sherwood hit a two out single but the Rangers were not able to score. Southern Arkansas had their first two hitters reach safely before an RBI single pushed across the game's first run. Cason worked around the jam keeping the Muleriders at a 1-0 lead after the first.Â
Southern Arkansas was able to extend their lead into the second inning after a walk and a two out single put runners on first and second before a three run home run by Rubio pushed the home team in front 4-0 after two innings.
The Rangers had a scoring opportunity in the fourth inning on a Sherwood single leading to a Kaitlyn Corn walk pushing a runner in scoring position but a strikeout closed out the inning with the Rangers trailing 4-0.
Northwestern had base runners in the sixth and seventh inning after a walk in the sixth but were not able to strike. Later in the seventh inning a lead off walk followed by a two out single to left field for Avery Clark set up first and second, however a strike out closed out the Muleriders win 4-0 completing the series victory.
The Rangers have two more on the road before returning home. Northwestern Softball will be in Hays, Kansas against Fort Hays State before returning home for conference play against Arkansas Monticello on March 21st.
